DWP employment waiting list

Not sure if its been mentioned about a recruitment freeze?
Although I work for jobcentre plus I don't actually know why they have a recruitment 'freeze' on?!
Seems to be effecting internal permanent staff too, a lady in our office does 30 hours a week and asked to up it to 37hrs as her husband has lost his job, she has just been told 'no' as it will increase the 'headcount'.
Over the years i've adjusted my hours from 37 to 32 then back to 37 and in the last 12 months back to 32 to due to family issues, this all happened with out any problems. The dept has always been very accommodating and understanding about such things. So i'm begining to wonder whats happening...
We are struggling with huge volumes of work that doesn't seem to be shifting due to the fact there isnt enough staff to do it!0 -

I can't find the info on my dongle so going to look in my old hard drive tomorrow.... hope I find the scoring model, its handy to have!
I for one would appreciate it if you could find it as I have an interview next week for an EO position. I already have a success letter for AO but would prefer the EO position.0 -
I just hope something comes of all of this, i so was looking forward to this job, it seemed such a good job, the only problem i have now is work is constantly asking me if i am intending on leaving (due to the DWP applying for ref's)
I know things got so intolerable for me due to this I have actually resigned so in three weeks will be unemployed. A position I haven't been in apart from maternity leave before so I am really hoping things work out for me with DWP. Things seem to be looking up. However it does seem there may not be as many jobs as originally thought so when pause is lifted will it only be the very top who get posted? It's hard trying to stay positive.0 -

I believe that DWP is bound by a recruitment policy that forces them to fill jobs from the top of the merit list down. If they take on someone lower down the list and don't have a very good reason for skipping over you, then someone will end up in deep doo-doo if you complain.
Taken from this page is the below quote:DWP recruitment processes are underpinned by the principle of selection for appointment on merit on the basis of fair and open competition as outlined in the Civil Service Commissioners' Recruitment Principles. If you are successful with your application, we will ask you for permission to carry out pre-appointment enquiries on your health, nationality and other matters before formally offering you the job.0 -
I am looking for some advice. I have been offered a permanent position as an AO and my start date is at the end of October. I have just received a success letter for an EO position which is temporary for 18 months. At the interview I was told that the start date for this will be in about 6 months. So if I start as a permanent AO and then take the EO job when it comes up, will I remain as a permanent employee of the DWP and revert back to an AO after the 18 months?0

Thats a tricky one. Im not sure how it would work. I guess if you start as an AO then choose to leave that position to take up an EO role, it might be that after the 18 months you are back to square one. I think maybe u need to phone for advice on that one xx0 -

For others who have had success letters lately and complained to Louise Perry re: the freeze and then been told that the success letters are not a job offer, I found this sentence from the same web page rather interesting as well:
The only way to interpret this is the same way most of us interpreted our success letters (and which the DWP is backpedalling away from now): A success letter that does not mention being on a waiting list is indicative that you will be given a job offer as long as your pre-recruitment checks are cleared. Or until they decide to change how many jobs they need to fill.
Exactly I started to think I was losing the plot slightly and have reread my success letter numerous times to clarify to myself that it was stating I would have a job!!! As we have all interpreted the same thing we can't all be wrong.0 -
I am new to the forum and I thank you guys for the constant flow of information.
I have just being to sign on and interestingly the person I dealt with had also gone to the same interview for EO IRC 60370 (she is currently a AO). I asked her about the freeze and rumours that it had been lifted. She stated that she had not heard that it had been lifted, but her colleague who had overheard us said that she received an email yesterday stating that it had been. This revelation prompted them to ask their senior manager (SEO).
What she was told was that "unofficially" it has been lifted, and allocations will be starting up. The advise she was told to give me was to keep waiting as the call could come at anytime within a forthnight of course depending on where I am on the merit list (25).
So I am keeping the faith and hoping that it will be soon. I hope this encourages y'all.0 -
Well, my success letter did not mention a waiting list....but the info i've just received about starting says: 'We offered you a place on our waiting list.' What? Maybe they put that to everyone, who knows?
bethel00- my letter doesnt say how long my contract is OR if its permanent? How was yours worded? Mine just said 'we offered you a full time Fixed Term position'. Not for how long or anything?"You dont need a weather man to know which way the wind blows"0 -
I have not had a contract yet. I am starting with the Pension Service and when I applied for the job it said it was permanent. My letter also confirmed that it was permanent rather than fixed term0
