Have a mooch here: http://www.dwp.gov.uk/about-dwp/working-for-dwp/current-vacancies/

Notice they are advertising for all area's? That's a little tight! Should be more specific instead of adding people to a 'talent pool'.......

I applied in Edinburgh, IRC 62477 for an EO position.

Mentioned the fiasco while signing on today, the lady on the other side of the desk didn't know much specific - all she could say is that I would definitely get contacted by DWP but couldn't say when. She did say that a good friend of hers got her 'success' letter in February & just got a call yesterday with a startdate in Westerhails (its in the edinburgh region). Also said that she didn't know of any new joiners in the office we were in (my preference, as its 3 mins from my flat!).

I still haven't managed to get thru to the guy on my form, emailed using the generic name.name@dwi.etcetc hoping that he's the only guy in the company with that name & theres not supposed to be a 4 after it or something! Also sent a fax, will do battle with the engaged tone again tomorrow. I've only been waiting since the start of September (letter dated the 8th) but have been unemployed (or "between jobs" as I like to call it!) for 5months now, also I'm balancing my time dealing with this with applying to Management Consultancy graduate training schemes to start in autumn 2010.

I think these are directed at never-in-doubt: What does the EO role actually involve day to day? It sounds like a junior management position from the website description & previous comments here, but they didn't go into much detail in the advert (which also mentioned some dealing with customers as well as managing teams of ppl) & the Capita people didn't know anything about it at the interview other than the list of 5 questions they had to ask! I'm not sure how much managing a team of people that signs on dole claimants needs? But if they want to pay me £20k to pad out the state bureaucracy I'm not going to stop them...

Roughly how long does the EO training last for & is it different to the training for other posts or is everyone lumped together before they get assigned to their various places? Do you state preferences for where you get posted during training?

Ta.

I dont think there is any EO training specifically, you'll probably just sit with another EO for a few days. I take it that the job is i the jobcentre not the BDC?

Ive TDA'd to EO for months on end, pretty straight forward. However I do prefer being an AO when the EO job involves staff management. Being a decsion maker or appeals officer at EO grade would be nice, thats were they tend to send the EO's that are ermmm........... not good at managing staff, stress or work load lol , this is why you only see the team leader EO jobs advertised ;)

Whats TDA'd mean?
• Temporary Duties Allowance , basically if they need someone to do an EO job - for example you team leader goes on holiday for 2 weeks or off sick for a month you become the team leader and get a % of the EO pay (the difference between AO & EO) for that period. Usually after being agreed by a HEO. I've just done 3 months as my line manager was busy else where.
• I just hope something comes of all of this, i so was looking forward to this job, it seemed such a good job, the only problem i have now is work is constantly asking me if i am intending on leaving (due to the DWP applying for ref's)
