What he said was they run an employment excercise for a department, go through initial filtering, literacy and numeracy tests and then interviews, Then everyone is put on a waiting list, the list is individual to the excercise number and lasts 12 months, they then pull people form the list to fill vacancies.

So I came 1st out of the 1000's that applied.

Oh yeh but upon reading this thread it does appear that depending on who runs the excercise there can be a lot of differences in this.

I’ve applied for 2 different EO posts. I’ve just been told by phone they want to make an offer for one of them - interview date 25/2, notified successful and placed on waiting list 18/3, heard today.

I’d like to know where I stand on the other one before accepting - it’s in a different location which I would prefer. Interview date 14/3, notified successful 23/3. No one is answering the phones - any ideas on how I can find out - or should I just decline the offer and hope the other one comes through - I don’t want to inconvenience them.

I was advised if you accept one position and they come back to you at a later date and offer you the other one you can resign the post you have taken and start the other job. Which area have you applied in (if you don't mind me asking).

how long is a piece of string... no really! thats your answer!

I called today asking if my CRB has been rectified and whether they need anything else from me. They told me everything is OK and they're just waiting for start dates. I asked if there's a vacancy for me, the officer I spoke to said yes!

I am so down. I got a letter dated 14th April saying that I would be offered a post if my background checks were satisfactory. I phoned Disclosure Scotland today and they have not yet received an application (I filled it in at the test day 28th March). Plus my references have not been contacted. I just feel so let down. They rushed through testing and interviews and yet now stall. Met someone who was at my test day on the 28th March at another round of interviews and she is in the same boat. They said they wanted the positions filled by the 30th April so I guess the letter saying I would be offered a post was just rubbish.

This is quite normal- I got that letter 13th March, still waiting for start date. They are swamped at the moment, everything seems to be taking forever. It is frustrating I agree, but have faith we'll get there in the end!

I will be out of work in June and therefore not able to pay for daughter's nursery. Getting decent childcare around here is difficult and daughter is very settled. Once I lose that then it will be difficult for me to start another job at short notice. Reading these threads it seems to be the case that they want immediate starts. So I will not get the job.:(
  • i know what u mean-one of the biggest problems is getting the nursery/childminder fees together before you've actually earned the money! I am currently on maternity leave but have been made redundant. I have managed to scrape together fees for nursery after DWP told me I have been successful, found a nursery, now have to keep putting back the date I start my baby there as they are not giving me a start date when they said they would! Never did I think at my interview in Feb I would still be waiting.

Re the start date, my mum was on the same recruitment excersise, she has just been given a start date and said she had to give a months notice and they were fine, so I think you'll be ok if you can't start immediately.

I got 11 out of 15 for literacy and 18 for numeracy does anyone know if those scores are good and as I have passed the interview does these scores help me get up the waiting list. Had my interview on 4th April and heard last weekend that I had passed. Wonder how long I have to wait??
