  • I'm starting Monday! Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrggggggggghhhhhhhhhh!!! Scared!!!! Panic! Panic! Panic!

Lol, it's always scary at first but you'll be fine once you get there and start. Do you know if/how many other new people are gonna be there also?

You'll be fine Venus, you got through the tests, the interviews and the waiting, so actually starting should be easy!

    :D
  • This is an interesting thread, have things changed that much in the last 5 years? I used to work for JC+ and was originally interviewed by GE Capita under old ES rules. Similar pattern, i.e. aptitude test, interview, 2nd interview, job offer - but never had a waiting list, we were short staffed to be fair!

I started as EO at JC+ (under ES rules) then jumped ship to the old SS rules and became DSSP (HEO) before moving to the kremlin as SEO and never once was their a waiting game - maybe it was the times but we were crying out for staff!

Most the people on our promotion list were not suitable therefore we always held external interviews (funnily enough never in a jobcentre lol) and the crux of employees came from external markets such as the council, employment agencies the like.... after all, the AO's working in benefits simply couldn't provide the same level of service as the front line EO's - well as was the case back then (2004).....

I used to love it, but then some doors opened whilst other doors closed - but once you get in, so long as you don't lie on your application (the DSSP will check these along with Internal Fraud) then it should be a job for life.

    * DSSP = District Security Specialist (under SS rules before DWP)
    * New name = Security Advisor (under DWP rules but the old version of an ES fraud officer)

No, i don't know how many at all. I know a woman who is starting at the same job centre as an AO too but she has her training in a different location?! Her location would be much easier for me to get too...darn it!

Don't know how many people! I am clueless, hence the ARRRRRGGGGGHHHH stuff!! I will report back when i know of course!

So excited to start something new and different though. I do suffer terribly with nerves, so as long as the training isn't me getting up and role playing in front of 30 people...i should be okay.

I think the longer you wait the worse it is..i am full of expectations and my (wild) imagination is awash with all sorts of mad things!! Hopefully some more people will be getting 'the call' soon and we can share experiences!

I finally made contact with the call centre! Or wherever!

She said that I was very high up on the 'list', though she may have just been nice :p said that my CRB check was done but they still needed to do medical and employment history checks for three years...I am slightly concerned now because I don't really have a three year history to check  as I have been unemployed for a while and also stayed at home with a very sick close relative...err I did some extra A Levels at one point lol

This is basic vetting, so long as you can prove what you did do then that is suffice, so in your case a student from home looking after a sick relative would be fine. The fact that you declare what you done is suffice, although you sometimes have to actual prove it which is easy enough when you provide your certificate....

The impressions I got from the application form and everything was that the emphasis was on competencies (and they even said that it could be from personal experience instead of from a job) and that the matter of a recent job history was phrased as an 'if' i.e. it wasn't hugely necessary?!

Yes, always ensure when completing these forms you work to competencies; for instance remember to use the Why (you did it), What (you done) & How (you did it)....

That's why I was so overjoyed at having to give PERSONAL references instead of professional ones...If they require a recent employment history to check as well there's not much point!

Normally they ask for one employer/college (reference) and one personal (referee).....? If you've not worked or have sketchy history, then use the tutor from your A Levels as they are classed as a reference :D

On average, i'd dismiss around 50 people a year for application irregularities so make sure you tell the truth...

From memory, training is learning the benefits system and what the differences are between the types of benefits available (i.e http://www.adviceguide.org.uk/index/life/benefits.htm) and the benefit matching, i.e. you cannot claim christmas bonus if you're a 30 something person)...

It was classroom based and taught you LMS (Labour Market System) and their GSi mainframe etc - do not get caught looking at mates on the mainframe - DSSP's monitor these and they are randomly checked - 1 in 10 across the whole network so if you access mainframe say twice a day, chances are you'd be audited both times! Its not worth it...

We monitor this as a lot of JC staff get bribed by DCA's knowing that the GSi is spot on and getting staff working on the sly, obtaining addresses of high value debtors, would result in £250 payments being made.... we sacked over 500 a year so it is rife!

Don't do anything on the PC's - everything is monitored apart from LMS which is the local system for notes and jobs/signing on etc.... and used by the front line JC+ only. :D
