I finally made contact with the call centre! Or wherever!

She said that I was very high up on the 'list', though she may have just been nice :p said that my CRB check was done but they still needed to do medical and employment history checks for three years...I am slightly concerned now because I don't really have a three year history to check  as I have been unemployed for a while and also stayed at home with a very sick close relative...err I did some extra A Levels at one point lol

I had assumed as my application had been initially accepted, i.e. I must have passed the application form part and the competency questions on it, that my 3 year history as I described on the form was also considered acceptable...But now I am not so sure and if after having gone through all of this they come back and say 'no way' I shall be urghhhhhhhh :(

The impressions I got from the application form and everything was that the emphasis was on competencies (and they even said that it could be from personal experience instead of from a job) and that the matter of a recent job history was phrased as an 'if' i.e. it wasn't hugely necessary?! That's why I was so overjoyed at having to give PERSONAL references instead of professional ones...If they require a recent employment history to check as well there's not much point!

She also said they are reviewing things for the Jobcentre until the end of October.

:jthis is me currently jumping around like an idiot as I just received "the call"

I have just come out of hospital checked my voicemail and there it was - call this number for your start date!!!! woo hoo am I still dizzy from the anesthetic????? or is this actually real????

I called them back and sure enough, I start my EO role 61099 (Merseyside) in the Wallasey job centre on 19th October.

Time line goes a little like this -
    applied 26th June
    tested and interviewed 24th July
sucessful letter August 8th (dated 4th)
    CRB 11th August
    THE CALL 30th September!!!!!
    Start date 19th October

There is light at the end of this dark tunnel, and I have wanted to do this for sooooooo looonnnng. I hope you all see this as a step in the right direction and it helps to make you feel a little better.

    Good luck everyone  cheers

I'd love a beer to celebrate - but they don't mix with the pain killer the hospital gave me

    Congrats Jimisugly,
It seems the calls are coming thick and fast this week. OK maybe not thick, I think we're up to 3 this week?

And when they call do they confirm your working hours/salary/holidays etc?
  • I don't know - I go away for 48 hours for my birthday and people are starting to be offered posts. What is going on? Have they got their act together finally?

If I am being honest I think that the "freeze" has allowed them to clear old IRCs and that is why there is movement. About time too.

I got a call while I was away from my personal referee. He has now received a reference for all 6 posts I interviewed for. When this "freeze" is over I am going to be turning jobs down all over the place.

Congrats to Venus, Maisette and Jim. Let's hope everybody else who has been here with us for the past few months get that call soon.

It does seem a lot of us are starting on 19 October. Why is that date so popular?
  • And when they call do they confirm your working hours/salary/holidays etc?

Nope...the man i spoke to was actually very abrupt and rude. He did not confirm anything except that i still wanted the job, the location i would be working and where the training is and for how long. I tried to ask more, but he just brushed me off saying 'You will be getting the details in the post.' Rude sod!!! Maybe its just the person i happened to get? Was everyone else's so rude to them?

I haven't received the details yet..hopefully tomorrow as i like to have a few days to take everything in and prepare myself. May need to go to the place where i am training first as i don't know any bus routes yet! Probably end up arriving 3 hours late and at the wrong place! Eeek!
