I don't understand what is going on with this 60227. I went for an interview on 25 June in Paddington for this vacancy. I have had a success letter but nothing else since. Have they re advertised the vacancy or perhaps invited more people to interview if they didn't get enough people? I applied in May. Does anybody know anything?

    Hello Grey,

Please can you please help me with the competencies you used cos i have done two EO interviews wish not successful and i thot i did very well with my examples...am feeling sad right now and will appreciate any assistance.who knows if there is something am not doing.

I really need the professional custmer service and communication competencies.

    thanks.
  • Does anyone know how the scoring works for the application process?
My posts are my own personal opinion . I would always recommend seeking professional advice.
  • Yes, you're right. The test scores is not taken into account. If you pass you won't have to take them again for any future applications.

That's what I thought reading this site but I have been told twice by Capita that your test scores are added to your other scores. Maybe it is the case with Capita but not Manpower?

who knows - the whole thing is a shambles.
  • I think this whole thing is a shambles, i have been waiting since April after chasing everyone and making complaints how i have been treated. I am at the final end of the road to recieve 'The Call' still i have not heard anything. This is so frustrating as i would like to start planning my life out along with childcare. I mean for the growing number of people unemployed no wonder some people who don't want to work get so comfortable. I am just so tired of waiting.

The way it worked when I did it was:

Literacy: 9/15 for the AA post, 10/15 for the AO, 11/15, EO

    Numeracy 10/20 all grades.

Then the interview scoring is out of 45 points. There are 9 for each of the 4 competencies and 9 for overall communication. You have to 'pass' (score at least 5 out of 9) in each category. So the pass mark at interview is 25/45, but those who score highest are posted first and those lower down towards the 25 mark cut-off point are put on a waiting list, until all vacancies are filled. The waiting list lasts from 6-12 months and can increase or decrease in available posts at any time, plus there are people who start the job and don't stay long, for whatever reason, which means the next on the list is invited to take up a post.

  • So sorry if this has been asked before.... found lots of useful info from everyone regarding interview process etc but not so clear on the next stage. I received a successful letter with no mention of a waiting list and now I have had my CRB check back. Does anyone know what happens next or will I just have to wait and see? :o

Just worried that the job may never actually happen!!!!

Is it just the bureaucracy that makes everything take so long?

    Thanks so much in advance.:rotfl:

Not sure peace. A good idea would be to ring Newcastle (number should be on the success letter) and ask what they want you to do with the Scotland form. They had to chase me up on mine (not my fault, honestly) so might help to progress your application.

Possibly correct on the time thing, but there are other factors. In my interview, one thing mentioned was the CRB checks. They used to just allow people to start with checks ongoing, but after the slating any state run body has had recently (mismanagement, data losses etc etc) they're being more careful.

Plus, while annoying, the success thing is a weird one to what I can gather (but I am most likely wrong). They advertise x number of positions, yet still want to keep suitable applicants interested. So if you fall outside of the x, you're waiting and no guarantee. In your case, the checks and what not are the time waster.

But anyway, sorry to rant. I'd personally ring Newcastle for an update and to make sure the CRB check is sorted asap.

I got told literacy was 8/15 for AA, 9/15 for AO and 10 or 11/15 for EO when i did my tests a few weeks ago?

    Hiya,

This is my personal interpretation of the process based on my experience, acceptance letters I have received and posts on this forum, others may have a different opinion and we may all be wrong!

It would appear that if you receive a letter that does not mention a 'waiting list', it seems to indicate that they have identified you as one of the best applicants on the exercise and will offer you a position subject to the pre-employment checks, these include the Disclosure Scotland check and an HMRC check to previous employer. If you don't have a checkable history of employment, they will contact your personal references.

If these checks are completed satisfactorily you can expect an offer of employment, but some areas appear to be trying to start a batch of newcomers together which means until all prospective employees have passed the checks they will not start telephoning candidates and making offers.

If you receive a 'waiting list' letter, this appears to indicate that there are other, better scoring/qualified applicants in front of you who have received the first letter. You are added to the waiting list and will be contacted, if, some time in the next six months a: a suitable vacancy become available; and b: you have risen to the top of the waiting list. At the end of the six months the waiting list will be scrapped!

My personal advice; if you receive a none 'waiting list' letter, congratulations,, you can expect 'the call' once your checks have been competed successfully; if you receive a 'waiting list' letter, :embarasse keep looking for a suitable job.

Good luck to all those still awaiting the call.
  • I will definitely give them a call at Newcastle... I'd filled in all the forms at the interview so presumed that the CRB check which was returned meant they had processed it and I didn't have to do anything else but wait...

Thanks so much for your assistance peeps, I really appreciate it... here is hoping for a start date soon!!
