:jCongratulations Pansalar, hope it goes well. Which were your choices? I believe that I was on that exercise Leics/Northants. I was never given a preference sheet, but informed Newcastle that I would only consider Rushden/Wellingborough/Northampton, in that order. However, since then, I have been successful in the exercise that I really wanted Beds/Herts, and they are undertaking pre employment enquiries, no mention of a waiting list. I believe Naz was on that Leics/Northants also. Good luck, you are starting on my birthday!!:rotfl:
:T:T Congrats Pansalar. All the best and let us know how you get along.
Yes TwinPeaks, I was on the Leic/Northants too. Contacted Newcastle on Tursday and was told my application is with the checking team and this could take up to 8 weeks. I guess the waiting continues.

    Hi Naz,

I have never been able to speak with the checking team except for the one occasion when they called me (to chase CRB) having called about 3 times. I get the distinct impression "8 weeks" is what they tell everyone who calls. It is frustrating but I think you will get your offer much sooner than that. Keep calm and carry on!

The new adverts do say that hours from 8-8 need to be covered. Still don't think its fair for the people who have been waiting since early this year to now have the goal posts moved as i am sure it was 9-5 in the original adverts. Anyone got a copy of their original ads? Got my confirmation of my start date today and it says about working til 8pm, which i don't mind if its only once a week but i will be on the bus for an hour and a half each way , wouldn't get home til 10pm!

Because I don't read this forum everyday i may have skipped a part where this has already been said but I have a copy of the job description that I applied for waaaaaay back on 9th February this year... it reads...

"Current operating hours are 9:00am to 5:00pm Monday to Friday. Full time working patterns are 36 hours over 5 days between the operating hours stated above.
Requests for part-time working will be considered and individual working patterns will be agreed to meet the business need prior to appointment. There is an expectation that staff will work full time for the duration of their training.
Successful applicants wishing to work flexible working hours will have to adopt the Jobcentre Plus Flexible Working Hours agreement."

No mention of having to be flexible around changing schedules or saturdays.. and certainly implies that the company will be considerate to childcare etc..

I am completely shocked that the times have now changed as I was hanging onto this job because it was a well-paid 9-5 that would give me weekends off. *sigh* things just go from bad to worse...

Hi Chi Chi, you heard anything yet? I haven't:mad:. I'm going to try to progress things on Monday, but am starting to put a lot of effort into looking for other jobs now. It really is beyond ridiculous how they've carried on. As others have said, considering they put so much emphasis on customer service and high performance, they don't demonstrate it themselves. It has now been 4 months since my EO interview and 2 and a half since my 2 AO interviews, and I have heard precisely nothing concrete about any of them.

    :mad::mad: Absolutely RIDICULOUS.

    Hi Lili

I agree. But now there is a new twist in this area. Yes they are advertising again for EOs. Identical roles in Job Centres but they still have not posted us!!!!!!! It honestly beggars belief. Anyway on Tuesday when the 'Vacancy holder' is back she will be receiving some telephone calls asking for an explanation.

Lili / Juliet, sorry to play devils advocate...

But if you haven't heard anything concrete, then I dont understand what the issue is - safe to assume, you haven't been succesful? It would be different if they actually told you, the job was yours and then kept you waiting etc... But I think you should have been looking for other options a week or so after the interview if they hadn't confirmed you had actually passed the interview.

Anyway - best of luck, I'm sure you will find something soon! Just put the same energy and enthusiasm into the next job search that you have chasing this one, and I'm sure you'll be fine.

    Good luck!

No, no, no. I appreciate that this is a long thread and you are not obliged to read every one of my posts, but when I made that post I did so as part of my on-going saga. I HAVE been offered the EO post, having moved up the waiting list and having had my Disc Scot pertaining to that post returned to Newcastle on 18 June (so DS say, not Newcastle). The deadline given by Newcastle HR to be contacted by the job holder has (surprise surprise) passed. This is why I now need to step up a gear to get answers. Also why I am concentrating on other avenues instead of believing them when they say I have a job. PS when I say I haven't heard anything concrete, I mean a start date.

And Juliet, yes they were advertising for further EO posts in central London recently. But if I find out they've strung me along this far just to say 'no' now, I will be seriously invoking the complaints process.

Ah i see well good luck,

in terms of stepping up your gears... my advice would be...

contact newcastle, ask to speak to the manager in charge of checking (there is actually someone cited as being overal in charge) - tell him, you're not happy with the way your checking is being handled and ask to speak to the line manager of the person actually in charge of your checks... he'll put you through to that line manager. Then recount to that person your concerns etc... and ask him to look into your specific case.

I did that and after waiting nearly 2 months for checks to complete - 3 days later I had a phone call and was offered a start date... coincidence? maybe.. but can't hurt! =)

I realise it's a little sensitive as you don't want to rub people the wrong way etc... but I had got to the point where I just thought I can't stand in silence any longer so whatever the consequences I wanted some definate action. This is a government department and they do act professionally. I did ponder if making a fuss would hinder my checking but decided to throw caution to the wind and was welcomed with a very understanding take on my situation by the management at newcastle, and even the direct line to a manager should I have any other questions/concerns going forward regarding my checking.

    gluck!

    Thanks. Some good advice.

That is exactly the state of mind I am at. So far I have been softly softly, partly for the reasons you say and also because I am not desperate for money and had other stuff to do, and because thus far, I have sort of understood the logic behind the delays. I came off the waiting list early May, then there were stupid reasons why my DS was delayed which I managed to sort. But now, it's just empty silence, when all should be moving smoothly towards the post I apparently have.

PM me with the details of the manager in charge of checking, if you still have them and if you don't mind.
