Just got "the call" - said that they can offer me a position STARTING MONDAY at the jobcentre which is literally a 5 minute walk frm me!!!!! Fantastic news. She said that all my refs have been checked, but that they hadnt done my DS form yet so its pending that but obviously i know that will all be fine. She said if it isnt, then my contract will be terminated.
Im SO pleased!!! They also said that id be sent on a training course in Slough and would that be a problem - I said no because my partner lives in Slough (hes trying to move down here but we were waiting for me to get my job offer) and it would mean seeing him for a week.
God im pleased! good luck everyone, hope you all hear soon!!! xx:)0 -

Do you know much about the HEO role?
Stick Burton on Trent in there as well.
I got an unsuccessful letter for the Midlands HEO this week, but good luck to all the successful candidates.
I only saw the advert for the Birmingham HEO vacancy but when I went for interview I was told that there had been so many applicants applying to multiple areas that they had combined the separate areas into one project. There were 5 different areas IRC59051/59066/59067/59069 and 59071.
I also selected no preference for areas to work in.0 -

I explained that it would need to be higher in the range as fuel costs alone would come to £2500 pa. They called later to say they couldn't up the salary but would start me at Gosport instead as that's just a few miles away. Job done.
Maybe I'll see you on one of the training things...
Excellent news! Well, at least they changed the location to make it easier for you. I put Gosport down on my preferred location too!
I probably will see you on some training thingy soon. Good luck! x:p0 -
Well done Kelly!!I also start working for DWP on Monday.I am nervous but pleased to be working again after 4 years!I am lucky that the job centre I am going to is only 10 mins away on the bus cos I have 2 sons and one needs to be dropped off at school at 8.15 or after so am hoping that the start time is at least nine.Although I have to go to the job centre at 9.30 on Mon but don't know if that will be my permanent starting time or not.
Good luck for Monday! Im pretty sure it will be 9, but I think you might be ok anyway in the future because they do flexi so you might be able to work round it. Im sure they would be accomodating to your situation! I start at 9.30 too on my first day, but I imagine that is just a one off x0 -
Got my success letter for HEO on Tuesday and had a call today to tell me what location I will be working in, subject to checks. I had been successful for the EO role and checks had been started for that, when I meantioned it they said they would get copies of them to speed things up. If this happens to any of you tell them about it because different teams do different roles and locations and there isn't a cross reference system - or so it appears.0

Hi samr - when I asked the lady where I've been signing on about the difference in the roles, she said the AA's were behind the scene (clerical/phone answering), the AO's were the ones you see each fortnight for 5 mins, and the EO's are the upstairs people who deal with new claims, 13/26 week checks and AOB.
I hope that makes sense.0 -
Years ago I spent several years in the Civil Service (DTI) my last Grade was HEO. In London, broadly speaking the role was either formulating policy, or management. The EO role was either assisting in formulating policy or casework and sometimes management of a small team. The AO role was predominantly a clerical role i.e. checking claims dealing with phone calls etc and the AA role was filing, ordering stationery, escorting visitors, dealing with the post if you like the more mundane tasks.
Usually on the first day you are asked to start at 9.30 this is because they want to make sure everything is ready for you and of course that they have had their first cup of tea etc. The usual format was obviously to show you where you will work, show you the loos, and where to get your tea/coffee from. Also introductions to who you will be working with, probably a short meeting with whoever is the top boss. Usually you will be given some booklets etc and also details of what courses you will probably go on. Probably an induction course, management course(s) as well as job related ones. This was my expeience of the DTI.
I hope it helps.0 -

I also asked the salary - she seemed surprised because she said it was on the original advert, but as it was a salary bracket I wasnt sure. If anyone is wondering, you start on the lowest that is advertised (well at least she made it sound as if that was a given)...I wasnt sure if they might put you on a higher pay grade according to your test results/capabilities proven at inteview. But thats not the case. Not that i mind at this stage! x
Yes you will start on the lowest point of the pay spine. However I think there may have been a pay rise since these jobs were advertised!!!!!0 -

Thanks for that, although I have been told today they are posting me to Erdington just outside Birmingham. The estimated starting date is for the second week of July subject to checks etc. Hopefully you will hear something soon too, as it looks like they are really trying to fast-track the recruitment process throughout the West Midlands. Now I just have to research where I'm being sent to and work out how and where to relocate to!
With regards to the actual position, I think it's mainly managing your team of EOs filtering policy down to them, managing and monitoring their performance, meeting targets etc. I asked about the role at interview and they told me it is almost like being assistants to the operational manager for the job centre you are assigned to. I could be wrong, and maybe someone on here could correct me / give more info. Anyway, the training is supposedly very comprehensive so there should be no worries there.
Fingers crossed you will hear something too, and everyone else out there waiting. I know you're based in Staffordshire, but if you know the general West Midlands area, where would you suggest moving to considering that I'm to be posted in Erdington?0
