Just an update to give people an idea on timeframes...

Interview for EO position 14th April

Successful letter end of April (doing pre-recruitment checks)

Roughly two weeks after that I receive my CRB from Newcastle (I put Newcastles address on the form)

Today I receive a letter from DWP saying I'm going on a 12 month list GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR.

    (Tees Valley area)

Well, I'm really hoping that my ds check is the last thing on the list. I got a success letter (no waiting list) on 24th April however my ds wasn't posted by DWP until 2nd of June. I know that they have contacted my employers mid may to confirm my work history. I've been contacting ds every day since the 3rd of June just to see if my app had been received and they finally got it yesterday. I phoned them again just and apparently they've posted it back to the DWP this morning! so they really are very quick once they actually receive them. My personal references haven't been contacted but from what I see they don't always contact personal references. I get the impression that maybe they have to do it for a set % of total applications, as, to be honest, you're only going to put people down that you actually get on with aren't you?

I suppose it makes sense from the DWP's perspective to pass all the other checks before sending off the DS one as that's the one that costs them money. I can only hope that i might hear something in the next week or so now...

Just to confirm the checks that we know they do are:

    Always Disclosure Scotland
Always either HMRC or Employer references
    Personal References
Possible background check for address history
Possible contact the courts to check for bankruptcy

    any more?
  • Thats great news - were you in the batch before me at Southampton? my interview was on the 19th April. When I spoke to the guy doing my recruitment checks, he told me that everyone in my batch hadnt passed their checks as yet and that the DS forms werent sent til they were.

So as you can imagine, I was expecting an ever longer wait to hear anything. BUT! I had a phone call yesterday morning from someone in jobcenre plus offering me a start date in Farnborough! Unfortunately I had to turn it down - Im down in portsmouth so Farnborough would be a pointless and long journey for me, but Im confused as to how they can offer me a position when only the day before the guy at newcastle said it would be weeks yet til all the checks were cleared???!!!! SO CONFUSING!

Obviously Im pleased that I got a phonecall - the woman I spoke to said that she was working her way down a list so not to worry. I said Id love to take a position if it was closer to home (as opposed to over an hour or more by car!!!) she said that i might get a phonecall back from her or someone else over the next few days for someone else...but who knows??!
Anyone else had this situation? x

Out of interest did you put down Farnborough as one of your choices or did DWP pull it out of the hat?

Are you saying that you actually had a "successful letter" not a "successful but on a waiting list letter" and now they say you are on a waiting list?

If this is the case then any of us who thought we were successful, had our references taken up and CRB checks undertaken and therefore thinking we are about to be offered a job could be told in effect NO you are now on a waiting list? Please please let us know???

    Yes, thats exactly it!

I received a successful letter, no mention of a waiting list. They then sent off for my CRB pretty sharpish so I thought I may hear soon (they told me at the interview that successful applicants should be employed in around 2-3 months from the interview date)

So today I received a letter saying "Thank you for attending the Assessment Excercise for the above vacancy. I am pleased to offer you a place on our waiting list etc etc etc

but nevermind, hopefuly I still hear something soon.

Edit - Just phoned Newcastle. They said the area I applied to have had a lot of redundancies lately so they are having to turn to existing staff to fill vacancies. All very weird and confusing. Oh well, back to applying for more jobs in hope.

Thats the annoying thing - I put down 4 possible locations but Farnborough is miles away - there are other locations that I didnt put down that are closer than that! Strange isnt it? I can only put it down to the fact that they dont have the jobs in my areas at the moment but are working their way down the list of others in hants...I can only assume that I might be nearish the top of the list if thats the case, otherwise I have no clue as to why I would be contacted for this one!

I just hope they offer me a south hants one soon, and Im not put to the bottom of their lists now...who knows!!!:rotfl:

Sorry that wasnt clear - I mean I didnt put down Farnborough originally, it is far too far away for me....bizarre!

That really would be awful. I would imagine there are lots of people (like me) who turned down a job to get this one only to be told that they hadnt got it and the original success letter was wrong.....hope that doesnt happen!!!!

Worryingly it appears that the original success letter was not wrong but for some reason they changed their minds!!!!!!!
