I'm currently waiting on checks to complete to start, I just found out speaking to discolosure scotland that the checks are Experian background checks. Which was news to me as I thought this was a criminal records check. I have debts that I have dmp's I'm currently in and a CCJ does anyone know if this will prevent me from working for the DWP? Wished they'd told me a good credit rating was a prerequisite to taking the job 3 months ago.

Also everyone that's ringing newcastle for info - what is the best number to ring? thanks

  • I received a "you've been successful" letter at the end of April and was wondering whether to chase it up when I took a call from the Learning & Support Officer in the area. She asked me to come in for a "taster" morning, which I did today. This afternoon I took a call asking me if I would start with them on Monday as the LSO was that impressed by me. They haven't received my checks back yet...

On the down side I hadn't realised they start you at the bottom of the pay scale, so I'm now trying to negotiate, which should be interesting!

in my case - i seem to remember a question on the paperwork asking if you've ever been bankrupt - I haven't so I guess there's still an outside chance they might let me start. Not holding my breath though. Have about 10k debts in total, most date back a while the CCJ is very recent though. I actually went to the trouble of getting a solicitor and sorting out dmp's with all my debts just about 5 months ago. Oh well. Just have to wait and see now I guess.

I finally got through to the guy that is doing my recruitment checks this afternoon. He said that everyone in my group (Southampton tests in april) is still waiting. He said that they wait for a bunch to pass the checks - and so far they are all ongoing.

I mentioned that Dscotland hadnt received my form, and the answer is that they do the recruitment checks first and then if you pass those, then they send the forms off. Suppose it makes sense, as it costs money for the Disclosure Scotland (I paid £20 for mine for a job i was offered before.)

Not sure if this is the same process nationwide, but it seems to be the case in hants, so it could be the case elsewhere. He said it would be at least a couple of weeks to hear anything but everyone else in my selection are in the same boat. I have heard they have contacted one of my personal refs, so things are moving. its just slow.

    Hope that helps!!!;)

I tried to get through today, the bloke thats dealing with it was supposed to call me back but surprise surprise he didnt! Thanks for posting this, at least i know we're all in the same boat!

OK ... this may take some time! pmsl

I am apparently successful for an EO post yet got turned down for an AO and AA post! My mum says I was overqualified, but I don't share her optimism. Anyway, I have learned through these application processes that each IRC/region has it's own 'general' telephone number and checking department telephone number (I hope this makes sense as the pizza's ready in 2 mins!). In other words there isn't a best number. I'm in Kent and I've had 4 different numbers for the South East, so you need to phone the number on the original DWP internet application page and give them your postcode or/and phone the number on any letters you've received. If you've had the success response/pre-recruitment letter they should be able to give you a name/number for the 'checker' who's dealing with your application. Don't take no for an answer on the phone and you'll get a direct number .... I know as I have one and now talk to 'bob' every Monday for an update! lol

    GOOD LUCK!!!

    There's nothing on the Disclosure with regards to financial details;

    4 headings -

Convictions, Cautions, Other Relevant Information, Other Government Information

the last one said 'Not applicable to this level of disclosure', all others just said 'NONE'

sodthis, great name by the way - yeah that's why I was so surprised at this.

But I spoke to disclosure scotland today to find out if they could send me a copy of the disclosure for my own records as Newcastle hadn't received it on their system as of late last week - and I was told by DS they sent it on the 16th of last month.

The guy said to me on the telephone - oh yes, that was a background experian check so was sent quickly - etc... and is sending me a copy.

I find it surprising I wasn't even asked for permission for credit checking etc... but meh, not really sure how these things operate. Kind of is a major drag if they factor this into their pre-checks without even mentioning it - would have saved me alot of effort if I had known from the start.

    Thanks for your reply :)

Yes I did call DS - it's actually Newcastle I need now as DS said they sent it all back 3 weeks ago, and I just want to find out what the current status of it is with Newcastle.
