Usually a letter is sent out, there are 3 types of letters:

    1) Successful, dependant upon necessary pre-employment checks
    2) Successful but on a waiting list
    3) Unsuccessful

These letters are sent out anytime from 6 days to 6 weeks, so I'm afraid that it is a waiting game!

You could try calling Newcastle, although they are busy going through a mountain of applications - their number is: 0191 218 3713

Alternatively you could try calling the job centre in the area that you had the interview; they should be able to tell you if you have been successful or not.

thanks for the advice think even if they sent out a letter within a week saying whether you were successful and waiting or have been binned would be more helpful
you shouldn;t really have to chase them up weeks later

Ok well 2 updates, firstly I have been informed today that my checks are all complete and clear and to expect a call within a couple of days. secondly I recieved a letter from another company confirming a start date of Monday, more time apart I could handle but why so close together, I feel so bad stringing the other company along in case something falls through with the DWP

Well done - Which office are you going to? :j

i am going to work in daventry near northampton dont know which office or where abouts in dwp gettin a letter sent out to me so just have to wait and see thanks again .
  • Well done - less than three weeks from letter to phone call, that's a really quick turnover!:T

Yeah, its not bad eh? One thing that may have helped the process along was that I had a fairy up to date disclosure of my own, so I put the ref. details for this down when I was applying for my dwp disclosure. I cant be certain but I think this would speed the disclosure process up since it means they only have to check the past few months gap between the 2 disclosures rather than my whole background.

Congrats . I was at the same venue on the 7th May and received success letter yesterday. Now just waiting for the checks and start date. Hope it does not take too long.

Hi - I'm so glad I discovered this thread!!

I'm sorry to tell you that I imagine you will be waiting for a long time. I went for my interview in April and received success letter 2 weeks later, coming into my 9th week and still not heard anything. I've rang them numerous times, and they can't tell me how long I am expected to wait, or what they are waiting for. My old employer hasn't been approached, neither have my personal references.
    :(

There are alot of stories on here that sound exactly like what I am going through!!

Had my tests for EO positon on 17th April, went for interview 18th April, success letter nearly 2 weeks later (dated the 26th April arrived around the 28th), CRB came back 2 weeks ago, sent it off to Newcastle, got it back 1 week later, now just waiting for phone call, its all very frustrating!!

1 strange thing that happened though, when I went into my local jobcentre last week where I hope to be working, (I am currently signing on) my advisor knew already that I may be working there soon, and she mentioned to someone that they wouldn't see much of me because I would be grade C, I didn't even know what grade C was until I went home and searched for it on the web afterwards!! lol!! She obviously knew more than she was letting on!!
  • Hello!
Ive been reading the posts here with interest and I thought I'd add my story!

Asked to attend the tests for the EO roles on 18th April, successful and attended the interview the next day.

I received my letter to say that I have been successful on Friday 15th May & that it was obviously subject to recruitment checks etc. I'd already filled out a Disclosure Scotland form and handed it in on the interview day.

There was no mention of waiting lists on my letter, only that I'd have to wait for recruitment checks....should I be worried do you think?!! Its just that I had already been offered a job (also Govt!:p) as an Editorial Office Coordinator for the 2011 Census and filled out a Disclosure Scotland form, for it, so when I received this job, I then told my other job that I'd have to turn it down...so Id been waiting for 6 weeks already for the original job - they were about to offer me a start date, but Id prefer obviously the DWP one. I hope I have made the right decision!

Id be interested to know of anyone else who has applied for the jobs in the Hampshire area - my test & IV was at Southampton Football Club and I asked for locations in the Portsmouth area....? x

UPDATE: it will be 4 weeks friday since I received my success letter and 3 weeks since one of my ref's was contacted, but Ive still not heard anything. Called the number on the letter this morning several times but no one answered (0191 218 3421) and then called a number that I found on here - but the gentleman told me that Id have to try a different one - 0191 216 6596 because they have been moving offices and might be the reason they arent picking up the calls. STILL couldnt get thorugh which is frustrating, all the calls just ring off.
I worry because the landline here is bombarded with telesales calls so my parents tend not to answer them unless they know the number, Im assuming they would try my mobile if they couldnt get through, but you cant help panicking! Not sure what to do now except twiddle my thumbs and keep calling....!

This happened to me just now, got given a different number to ring and it was engaged. I went to ring one more time and i actually got through to someone. Then i gave them my details, they said someone would check my records and ring me back. Im waiting for the call now i dont know how long it will be eek.

They will call back, i had this problem a couple of days ago, I called them and they said they would get someone to call me back and they did - as with everything it's just a case of waiting
