You can pay it in instalments - in fact, you can probably 'recycle' the same £300 - £500, via Standing Orders, for a couple of months to meet the £1K pay-in requirement of the Barclays account (see Martin's original article, he suggests something like that).

My application was accepted straight away, but OH received a letter saying:

"Unfortunately we have not been able to complete the processing of your application as we need to fully confirm your address and identity. Please call into a branch that is convenient with ID

... Once we have taken details of you documents these will be returned to you.

A personal Banker at the branch will then process your application"

The OH went into Barclays yesterday with ID and they took that and then said they would have to do a complete new application as there was no record of it on the computer! The OH said she didn't want to do this as she specifically wanted the online bank account (with the £100 cash back offer!). The Barclays man said he would make a note on the computer system that the ID had been checked.

I was hoping to ring the online banking people (does anyone have a number as there is no number on the letter I received) and tell them we have done the ID check and see if they can continue the online application. Have other people had the same problem or some the same?

    What did your letter say?

Right. i've just checked the letter and it says amongst other things that i need to take 2 forms of I.D into a branch then an account will be opened. The letter also has all the info i put in online on a seperate form.

The letter is dated, 18th Jan although i filled in the online application 4 days earlier.

Here's that telephone number that people wanted for Barclays that YorkshireBoy gave me to ring 0500 007234.

    That's good news then!

The T&C's state that the account has to be opened online to qualify for the £100 incentive.

So, if I was in your position, what I would expect to happen is for them to 'certify' a photo-copy of your ID with a branch stamp and signature/name/position, and then give it you back to post off in the pre-paid envelope to Brierley Hill.

I'd be very wary of letting them complete the application in branch - just in case you miss out on the £100.

    Good luck.

Does anyone know the exact time and date of withdrawal of the offer?

I think I applied on either the 17th or 18th Jan but cannot be sure. I had a letter confirming I had been accepted which is dated 19th Jan but I've got nothing in writing anywhere that mentions the £100. When you apply online you just get a message saying we will be in touch if you are successful.

I went to Barclays yesterday with my ID. The Customer Services Assistant said that she did not know if I would receive the £100, which is of course the easy answer to give whilst sat opposite the new customer. I have emailed Barclays and will phone on the free phone number tomorrow. If of course they refuse to honour the £100 promise, then my second favorite web site, https://www.howtocomplain.com will have some more work to do!

My girlfriend took her two forms of ID in on Friday and was told she'd have to make an appointment for this week as it would take half an hour to complete the application process. Has anyone done this yet and if so did they confirm it still counts as an "online" application?

£100 Online Cash Offer: Terms & conditions
    1. These terms and conditions apply to the £100 Online Cash Offer. Participation in this offer is deemed acceptance of them.
    2. This offer is only available to non-Barclays personal current account holders who open a Barclays Bank Account ('new account') online.
    3. This offer is not available to Barclays staff or members of the Barclays Group.
    4. The account must be opened within one month of fully completing the Barclays Bank Account application form online.
    5. Once the new account has been credited with £1,000 or more each month for the first two consecutive months after account opening, the new customer will be eligible to receive £100. Only one £100 will be payable to the new account opened and only one new account may be opened under the terms of this offer. The new customer's account will be credited with £100 within 28 days of the 2nd monthly payment of £1,000 or more being paid into the new account.
    6. If a new account is not opened or funded as required by the terms and conditions of this offer, the new customer will not be eligible for the £100.
    7. Except where permitted at Barclays discretion, if you take up this offer and whilst participating in this offer, you will not be eligible to participate in any other offers that Barclays makes available to its new current account customers.
    8. Barclays reserves the right to withdraw the availability of the offer at any time without notice.

The letter recieved had as the first line "Thankyou for applying online" If you take the forms they send you into a branch or post them back to open the account - the only activity you can do in any case online is the initial application.

This is inline with condition 4.
    4. The account must be opened within one month of fully completing the Barclays Bank Account application form online.

They confirm you applied online, so you just need to open the account however they request.
This is inline with the offer. That's my take so I expect the £100 as they offered, or else :)

I've just been in to Barclays and found out more information, which might help people using this offer,

    1. You can complete the application process in branch (as it actually does state on the acceptance letter), when you take in your selected proof of id (I did not want to post my passport or anything else!). The assistant confirmed that this would not affect eligibility for the free £100. She did ring someone to check this out, so I'm fairly convinced it is correct.

    2. The two deposits (not 12!) have to be made as follows. Deposit 1 between the date the account is opened and 1 month from that date. Deposit 2 must be made one month later still. This means my deposits are between 23/1/06-23/2/06 and 24/2/06-24/03/06. This isn't the same as one deposit per calendar month.

    3. They have another offer in-branch where you can earn £50 by recommending someone else to open a new account. The other person needs to make 2 deposits, according to the same conditions as the original offer. To use this, the person in the branch has to complete the box on the reverse of the leaflets they have for this offer, which includes the proposer's sort code and account number. There are no limits (so they say) on how many times you can propose someone new and get another £50.

I don't know how long the £50 offer will remain open, but if two people did this and split the money, they get £75 each!

Hope this is usesful to someone!
