This may be an indication of the route they'll take, given they don't have to justify their decision on credit scores... I had a few CC applics declined last year, on checking my reports at both Equifax and Experian mine was clear and my wife had a default from three years ago on a balance under £50. Either they're using this default as an excuse (its obvious from my record that I'm a flirt) or they base their rating on the sheer number of entries...
Why are they concerned about the credit rating anyway ? If you tick the box saying No Overdraft required not sure where credit comes into it surely ?am I missing something ??0 -

Thanks for the replys. On the application form I said I didn't want an overdraft so I really don't see what my credit score has to do with it. There is nothing bad on my credit file (I've checked), but I don't have any credit history. But why does that matter for a current account!? I might give them a call and claim to really want this account

I applied last week and received application form to sign in post yesterday. No additional information was requested. I phoned Barclay's and they confirmed that the £100 offer was withdrawn yesterday, but I was ok as my receipt of the form was on indication of acceptance.
Now for a bit of "hokey cokey" with £1000!0 -

had interesting conversation with ANDY ( Barclays Customer Services - Option 5 - 0500 007 234) yesterday when I realised I'd given the wrong answer to one of their online security check q's !! how the hell am I supposed to remember which Mobile phone shop I bought a phone from in Nov 2000?)
When asked what should I do Andy told me - quote " dont worry about it, its 'only Experian' we always give you leeway like getting a couple of things wrong. If you hit a problem give me a call and we can normally get your application sorted and accepted"
I hope this helps0 -

You are right, fagun, you can 'challenge the decision' - - - but Barclays have no obligation to accept people with even the cleanest credit record as their customers.
Given that the account has no attractions apart from the £100 sign-up bonus, it might just be better to turn your attention to the next best opportunity, rather than scoring negative points on Barclays' records...who knows, Barclays may come out with another attractive offer soon, and who wants to have an 'akward customer mark' on Barclays' files then?0 -
I also got a rejection letter 2day, but they could offer me a standard current account with cash card - whats the dif?
My credit has been fine of late, maybe I answered a few questions wrong (although I'm 99.99% sure I didnt!).
Oh well - you can't win 'em all!0 -

 I just phoned to find out why I was refused and they were totally unhelpful. They wouldn't say anything other than the fact that I didn't score "above the bar" on the credit check and that I can still open a a basic account (thanks, but no thanks). They didn't even take my name or ref number

I got rejected too....am unsure what to do. Has prompted me to apply for my credit reports from Experian and Equifax though..."Debt makes plans for you" - A quote from my friend Catherine. How true!0
