HA does not class toilet not working as an emergency!

I think you need to calm down and LOOK AT THE CISTERN AND SEE IF YOU CAN FIX IT YOURSELF INSTEAD OF GETTING WORKED UP."An arrogant and self-righteous Guardian reading tvv@t".

Also it is not really an 'emergency' as there is no H&S hazard , I assume you have running water and a bucket (I'm not intending to be faceitous here).
again, this assumption that this hasn't been tried! the day it stopped working, initially it was flushing itself for over an hour and then my husband tried to find out what the problem was and was unable to do so just managed to get it to stop flushing itself.
My issue is not the inconveinence of flushing the toilets by using the tap (which is a substantial amount of money) but is my track record with this particular HA which took 3 weeks to fix a broken hot water tap which meant i had to be boiling water for our baths, i guess this also doesn't count as an emergency right!
I would most definately be happy to be prioritise according to more urgent emergencies such as a broken heater but as this is not the excuse i was given by the repair line and the fact that my HA handbook does not class which broken toilet to be an emergency just states that a toilet not working as an emergency then I am justified to feel that as a rent paying tenant, my landlord is not acting accordingly.
Once again, thanks for all the assumptions made without taking the time to ask for clarification on my anger, heck a HA tenant, I must also be an unemployed, welfare single mother scum of the earth right!0 -
I am not getting worked up! no need for capitals I can read very well thank you every much!0

At the risk of actually trying to solve the problem rather than trying to knock lumps off someone else, what sort of toilet is it? Is it a handle flush or a pushbutton?
If it's a pushbutton it's probably a badly seated or damaged valve. That sounds likely given the fact it was flushing continuously. This isn't that easy to fix, you often have to remove the cistern to replace the valve. If so, it would need a plumber if you're not confident to look yourself (and as it belongs to the HA it's actually not sensible to risk it, you could be liable if you broke it).
I wouldn't call this an emergency though. You can flush with a pan of water, and it'll probably use less water than the cistern would normally, so there's no issue of expense.
Maybe the lynch mob could call off their dogs now? It seems silly to get het up about someone asking this, seems sensible enough to me.0 -

How is using the tap to flush the loo costing you money?

I think this is your real issue. You are unhappy with the service provided to date by your HA. However, your current problem started on xmas day, and they are saying they will deal with your issue in 7 working days. This is not unreasonable...particularly since, as others have already said many times, this is not an emergency.
Your toilet is NOT broken & it IS working. It is still in one (or two - depending on design) pieces, and is still connected the the mains sewer & disposing of waste accordingly. Only the flush mechanism is broken, & this it is very easy to do this manually...as your HA have told you. The only thing the flush button/lever does is release water down the toilet bowl. You can do this yourself, either by pouring a large jug of water down the toilet, or lifting the cistern lid, pushing the ball c*ck down, & pulling it up again to stop flushing.0 -
To be fair to N1, there's probably a water meter installed , but it's not an emergency."An arrogant and self-righteous Guardian reading tvv@t".

Agreed. Last time my flush stopped working I took the mechanism apart and the diaphragm had split. Went to B&Q and got a new one for £1.49. Problem solved.
To be fair to OP flushing with a bucket of water is a PITA. When mine was gone I found it took a few bucketfulls at least to shift everything, and that was without having eaten cheap takeaway vindaloo the night before or anything.0
