HA does not class toilet not working as an emergency!

Options
I was venting about issues with my HA which has resulted in what I perceive to be personal attacks and so I no longer want to participate in the ongoing dialogue!

It's just one of those things. You just have to appreciate that if your heating had broken down, you'd be pretty annoyed if the maintenance staff were off fixing someone's toilet

I admit it's a bit embarrassing if you're having a party. It isn't too bad to pour a jug of water down the loo after yourself; close friends and family won't mind either if there's a jug there and you explain.

On the other hand, It's not rocket science or particularly expensive to fix a toilet if you have a handy friend?
Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.
  • what is the problem with your toilet? is it the flush that has gone? or is blocked? if it is a problem with the flush then yes I agree its not an emergency, I have my own house but would not consider calling out a plumber to fix a broken flush as a matter of emergency, just throwing a bucket of water down the loo will flush it (as that is essentially all a flush does anyway!) until you can get it fixed, its not that much of a big deal.

If its blocked though, that's a different matter and definitely more of an emergency.

Well, to be practical about this, what exactly is wrong with the toilet? Some things are easy to fix.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

Oh dear!! If all you have to worry about is the lack of a flush, then you do not have anything to worry about. If you have not got the gumption to figure out that all you need to do is to pour a bucket of water down to fix the problem, then you are just being pathetic.
This is just a normal run of the mill maintenance job for us owner occupiers, most of us can't afford to call anyone out for such trivial jobs. By no stretch of the imagination is this an emergency. A bit of an inconvenience, but no more.
I can afford anything that I want.

I'd second that, lift the lid of the cistern and check if the flushing mechanism works. Good god !!

right now, i am meant to be having a small party on Friday as well! am i expected to tell my guests to use tap water to flush after themselves!

Perhaps you should put a notice on the loo wall reminding your guests that around 2.5 Billion people around the world, that's nearly 2/5ths of the world's population, do not even have access to a toilet.

Sort of puts things in perspective doesn't it?

  • Some people expect the world when they aren't paying...
  • Yeah, this happens all the time. Its not too much hassle. We fixed it ourselves last time. Wasnt that expensive, maybe a tenner. Much cheaper than calling out a plumber. A good household DIY book is worth the money

You should pack your bags RIGHT NOW, move into an expensive hotel & host your party there. Send your HA the bill.
How dare they not class your broken flush as an emergency???
