  • Just a quick update before i go get ready for work,

not much going on, spent £80 filling the chest freezer yesterday but my god is it full!!! should keep us going for the next 3 months.........actually thought about it this time and planned what meals i could do with what we were getting!

Transfered £40 extra to the egg1 card today so that is now at an even number (£900:D) as i am transfering money in hundreds make the number look "neater" (very anal i know but simple things and all that...........)

still waiting for my fella's overtime...... (must be a record now for the longest we have had to wait)

thats it from me, hope your all well?

  • Hey anyone still out there?!

Well not much to report, got some of my fella's overtime through so some more soon to be winging its way to the egg1 cc!!!:D

Also my cake making seems to have gathered a little momentum. made my mates birthday cake at the weekend (would put a picture up but would prob be removed as it was a mans bits if you get my drift) and then at a christening yesterday i seem to have bagged a possible 3 more wedding cakes for next year, 1 is a definate. It is my mate who does my hair so thinking she could just do my hair for free a few times instead of paying me??? no idea how much to charge for my cakes, feel cheeky charging mates. gonna go and get some prices from local cake shops to see what their charging.

Our weekly shop this week was under £50 but not suprising seen as our feezer is still full to the brim!

not money saving but it was ds1's first full day at school today. He seems to love it and has calmed down a lot since he has started. he is now called "our superstar" i felt a "proper" mummy last night making his lunchbox (which the OH forgot to pick up when he picked him up this afternoon!)

Not much else going on, what is everyone else up to??

  • Hey Rags!
*Claps* for overtime... isn't it wonderful? I finally got some these last 2 weeks. You *should* charge for your cakes. Have a look at local 'professionals' & halve it? Once you have a bit of a portfolio going, I'd say charge two thirds of the price? Definitely a good idea trading skills with the free haircuts!

Awww congrats to DS1 for being all grown up! :D

I'm not up to much, other than being busy!

    Im here!
Been on holibubs so thats why ive been AWOL.

Glad DS1 has calmed down a bit now he is at school. He is probably being challenged a bit more now because its so hard to keep them amused all the time at home.

Well done on the cake orders and yes I agree you should charge.
Approved foods have got Dr Oetker ready roll coloured icing packs 2 for £1 looked in Sainsburys today and they were £1.88 each. Might be useful for your decorating of the cakes ? It was actually still in date too.

My friend makes Wedding cakes part time for friends and stuff like you do. She charges for her ingredients (you could charge for ordinary stuff but use value, tastes the same anyway) and then adds a bit on for her time.
I didnt bother with a cake for Pips Naming in the end but she was going to do me a small shaped one for £50.

  • Hey everyone,

the weather here is pants today so me and ds2 are staying in and not going out for a long walk today which is a shame as i love the free exercise and he loves watching the cars, buses etc.

not much going on dfw side of life, hate the end of the month as its sooooo slow!!

Ds1 enjoying school and seems to be thriving there. was so ready for it me thinks. He has a lunchbox 4 days a week and for a treat (read coz i have no food left) he has a school dinner on a fri. The only problem i am having is so far this week most of the food in his lunchbox has come back!!! Have tried to be good and balance out good things like cherry tomatoes, fruit, cucumber sticks etc that he wolfs down here with treats like iced gems, fig rolls and stuff but hardly eats anything. Think it is the same with all the kiddies though as you here most mums saying "oh you must of eaten something today as your bag is a little lighter" it might improve once the novelty of playing out wears off (does it??)

Just done an order on approved foods for lunch box type stuff for both ds1 and my fella (he is like a big kid and found this week he seems to stay out of the garages if i make him a HUGE lunchbox) got loads for my £22 and even got myself a few breadmixes (gluten free) as im really struggling with the not eating bread thing, spesh when for lunch i just fancy cheese on toast or beans on toast.

Am feeling a litte happier at the moment as this next 2 weeks feel i have got the work:family balance right. only doing 3 days and they are not all grouped together like they have been in the past so am able to keep on top of the house, food, washing ect. its been lovely, would love to be a stay at home mum but this seems to be a good compromise. loved the money from all the overtime but now am enjoying not doing it. the debt might not go down so quick but so what, in it for the longhaul!!!!

right, nothing much else to say as nowt going on really...........
off to look at the old style board for inspiration on food.

Agree about end of the month going slooooooow...

DD1 and OH have packed lunches. Both of them obviously have hollow legs as they ask for loads of food, and like your OH, I have to give mine a stack of food or he's off at lunch to get more in to the shop/garage/chippy... Ironic as he's so lean, you wouldn't believe how much he eats to look at him!

I give DD1 (she's 5) a sandwich usually with a slice of Quorn on, plus a yogurt, sometimes a packet of crisps, a handful of cherry toms and a piece of fruit. I'll also chuck a bun cake in if we've been baking, plus she has a drink, usually cordial in her drink bottle. If she's left stuff it's usually because she "doesn't like sitting with the big children" when they stagger lunchtimes so she leaves what's not been eaten and goes outside to play.

OH has chicken/ham/turkey sandwiches, 2 x crisps, 3/4 chocolate bars, yogurt, 1/2 pieces fruit and sometimes cherry toms too, plus any bun cakes or cake leftover from the day before...

Don't know about you but think half the shopping budget goes on lunches!

Sounds good re: balancing things out... Think sometimes you have to take a step back and assess what's right for you and sounds like you're happy with work as it is so that's a positive :)
