My rags to riches, weight loss, yummy mummy stuff and 'owt else i can think of diary!

yaya.gifHello everyone. i thought seen as we are coming into a new year i would start a brand new, sparkly fresh diary!!

a bit about me, (for those who have not read my other diary) i am 27 and mother to two boys aged 4 and 4 months and live with my partner in the lake district (think mint cake)

i work as a nurse and am currently on maternity leave (due to go back in march) and my fella works as a hgv driver.

i wont post up my soa as it hasnt changed since i put it up on my other diary but will re-do it when i go back to work and know what my wage will be.

now the depressing bit, my debts................................this is my list of debts:
  • Egg cc @ 0% - £2015.00
  • Hbos cc @ 16.9% - [strike]£792.77 [/strike]EDIT: £1203.31 inc laptop
  • Hbos loan @ 7% - £9784.73
  • Mil loan @ 0% - £3000.00
  • Next @ 20+% - £619.67
  • Dfs @ 0% - £2066.00
  • Overdraft - £1750.00
So my total debt as of 28 dec 2008 is: £20,028.17!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (well a little bit more as not added the £400 on to it yet)   EDIT: £20438.71 inc laptop now.

My wishlist for 2009 is to:
  • clear the credit cards, next card and reduce the overdraft
  • lose about 2 stone/ fit back into my size 10's
  • remain stepford wife like (begrudgingly) when go back to work
  • pay all bills on time so no black marks when it comes to renew mortgage in november.
So to start off, my weight at the moment is 11st 3oz. will weigh every saturday morning and report my ups and downs!! (fingers crossed more downs than ups)

so here is the start of my new journey....................... everyone welcome!!! the kettle is always on!!!!!!!!!!!!

love rags

Hi good luck debt does seem daunting but evrry little you do counts even ebay keeps me going so cant complain although fees high and ebay gives all protection to buyers not sellers.

You probably tried switching suppliers already I suppose as switching ultities and insurance can save a bit.

Have you signed up for grocery challange on old style or earn £10 a day challange?
You signed up for quidco or checked out up your income board.

It was when I was on maternity we began to struggle and accumulate debt as i only got stautory although mates work in nhs so public sector much better maternity at leave and now you get 9months was 6 when I was off.
Then there was shock off going back and paying £900/1200 net salary on nursury+additional commuting cost of getting to work hardly made it worth the stess however hubby earnt to much to get benefits even we rent privatly high council tax+bills/food all adds up .

As for weight thing babas still young dont worry took me a good 6months to lose mine and i breastfed like mad.
Do miss baby stage cuirently trying for no 2 as dd1 3 in febuary cant belive where times gone oh calls her financial ruin but worth it.
We wree so careless wit money prechild wish we had been more careful and prepared ourselves better.

  • hiya, thanks for all your posts. i dont work in the nhs as after having ds1 the nhs started getting into trouble (well before the news was broadcast on the news) and were only taking staff on on a temporary contract. (i trained and worked in blackpool but lived an hour away so had to leave due to childcare after ds1) work in a lovely nursing home at the mo till/if the nhs ever gets sorted.

i have lurked on the site for ages and have been changing providers to get the best deals on my bills.

i have signed up to survey sites and quidco and just joined up to my first daily scratchcard. need more free money though........................ does anyone know whats happened to pigsback, i have had no clicks for a month??!!!!!

  • This isnt very dfw (although have used money given for xmas) but have just bought a food slicer for my meat and bread off ebay! i thought it was a bargain at £19.90 (inc p+p) but then had a brain wave and did it through quidco so will be getting 40% of that price back!!!!!!!! now that is a bargain!!!!!!!! really need to spend time on quidco and have a look at all the merchants it has on there, and work out the free daily clicks everyone seems to do on there.

i have looked for surveys but no such luck, have done my daily sctratchcard and signed up for the butlins bingo one as well (both are done by the same company but they accepted my details...........)

well my fella declared today he has caught man flu so seems resigned to lounging on the sofa feeling sorry for himself!!!!!!! and there was me thinking i could have a rest from being wonder woman whilst he is off work for xmas..............................

    Hi rags

Good luck, Try and do surveys and clicks everyday so you keep on top of them (hard i know with little ones)they soon add up and when you start getting vouchers it feels really good.

Know your area well, from just outside Kendal myself, Family from Ambleside and now i live north of Lancaster.

My moneysaving not spending has gone to the wall over christmas as we have been away , have decided that come 1st Jan will start all over again and will shift the Debt.

    Take care miemie
