If they've said the dog will "have" your LO, that's a threat IMO. Tell the police what has been said.

Quite frankly, I'd leave a juicy steak with loadsa raisins in the garden....but then I'd be an evil b!tch if I thought a dog was going to savage me or my family.
If my typing is pants or I seem partcuarly blunt, please excuse me, it physically hurts to type. :wall: If I seem a bit random and don't make a lot of sense, it may have something to do with the voice recognition software that I'm using!
  • To be honest i'm not sure what can be done.
If the police goes round they can only tell them to make sure that it doesn't get out etc etc. If the dog is in the house and growling its not a danger to anybody. As its getting over your fence there's a chance there could be a danger so they could have a word with them and advise them to put a higher fence up and to make sure the dog can't get out.
So far its not bitten anybody or been a danger to the public, just a potential danger - possibly.

The RSPCA can't do anything, they're a charity not law enforcement officers. If they turned up at the door your neighbours can tell them to sling it and that'll be it. They can't force entry or anything like that. They pretty much have as many rights as a jacket potato.
  • You've done the right thing in my opinion. Sounds like they like to intimidate people having the scary dog in the first place but also the way they are stopping you sorting the fence out but won't do anything about it themselves. This would be my worst nightmare with young children around. Hope somthing comes of you reporting it.

i dont think its the dogs fault tho i think the blame is on the owners who dont seem to control it and i dont think they would eat a steak that was lobbed over the fence. . . . (why raisins btw?)

at the moment DD doesnt go in the back yard because of the dog but i dont think its fair we have to stay inside because they let their dog out and cant seem to keep it on their own yard

its not a threat at all. They've given the OP a warning that the dog would have their little 'un if they came into contact with each other. they haven't said that they're going to set it on the little 'un, which would be a threat.

they had the police round the other day because the dog went for someone but i dont know if it actually got hold of them so trying to find out.

RSPCA said that they can take the dog away if they deem it to be dangerous but i dont know how they would/could or how long over a period of time that would happen - if they got letters/visits ? surly the police would take the dog if it was deemed vicious and not in control? (hence why i feel awful because i dont want anything happening to the dog - i think if it was controlled it'd make a brill guard dog but not for a home)

you could put a higher fence up within the boundaries of your property. your neighbour won't need to give their consent and you won't need planning permission for a 6ft fence.

pretty sure they don't have that right

they are JUST a charity for animal protection and have no special rights or powers. all they can do is call the dog warden / police and pass it on to them
  • trying to get money for a bigger fence - we only brought one that could be attached to the one thats already up so its not big enough) but cant ask 'rents for money - we owe my mum and dad and OH's mum "possibly" being made redundant. Any spare cash going into OH's debts. What can i do about it charging at the window to get out tho? if it got out whilst we were coming up the path god knows what it'd do

raisins... cos they are toxic to dogs - nice one foxxy - not!

We used to have a dog that looked like it would have your arm off, barking, snarling, showing its teeth and generally going mad, till you got to it, we it rolled over for a belly rub - poisoning a dog like that, without a proper assessment would be a great trick, how smart of you to suggest that route of action, and advising the OP to break the law.

I agree with mommyme - the owners are to blame - and their assertation that 'he willl have you' may (or may not) just be a load of hot air - however, as said earlier, no child should be put in a position with a dog, known or otherwise, which could be dangerous.

I think its perfectly reasonable to expect them to put the fence right - or at least to let you do it - they do sound like idiots to be honest, lets hope there is a good resoluton to this, its a tricky one.
