This is a bit OT but - when I was a zookeeper we had shetland ponies, which used to bite kids on a regular basis (there were signs up, but they loked so cute people did not believe us that they bit) - they nipped me once and jeez does it hurt! I have never been bitten by any other animal, including dogs!0

UKTigerlily wrote: »lmao no different if a horse bites or a dog does, neither is asked for! And not while working with or riding horses. By that logic we could say anyone near a dog is taking a risk. Why would I sue the Owners? I don't believe in sueing for the sake of it, besides in a few cases the injuries were accidental such as when I was bitten by a horse trying his best to get the one in the stable opposite him.
To compare that to a child at risk of being savaged by a rottweiler is the sort of flippant attitude that concerns people.
It is like comparing an adult being pinched on the bottom to a child being groomed by a paedophile. It makes it look like you don't care and don't take it seriously, now I know from you new dog thread that you do care.
But the more people hear this attitude from certain elements in the dog owning community the more people realise that some owners of dogs are often not able to be trusted to behave properly.*Make every day Caturday*0 -

I am confused here - are you saying that the dogs acted in a deliberate way as to attack the child and thus the whole thing is not an accident.
Or are you accepting that the dogs did not intend to attack or kill the child and it is not an accident in that the parents should not have left a child and dogs alone together - thus implying it is the parents at fault rather than the dogs?
Sou
The parents were negligent.
Accidents are for the most part preventable.
If you let two Rottweilers get hold of your baby (& its not like the OP where they can leap the fence & you are startled) thats no accident, thats bad parenting.
Personally I don't believe dogs like that are suited to family life, in the main they are working dogs & need more stimulation than a family home offers them (but thats just my personal opinion).
How aggressive the dogs were with the baby I have no idea, I'm not party to the medical reports, but they did cause the babies death.0 -
And again I say

!!!!!!??? you are complaining about me (apparently) comparing a theoretical child being savaged by a rotteiler to me recounting my experience of getting an actual bite from a shetland pony???
The more I hear your naive crackpot theories the more I am sure that you are spouting reactionary rubbish! Sterilising dog owners? compulsory IQ tests? ... and you criticise other people's attitudes? You should scrutinise your own - it is all beginning to sound rather Hitler-esque from here.0 -
This is what gets me, none of us have said it's ok for any dog to bite/maul/kill/harass neighbours have we?? We are trying to say that it's not just dogs that kill or injure, and you can't ban everything just because of some horrific incidents. Yes, I totally agree even 1 death or bite is 1 too many, I agree any dog biting should be PTS, I had my ex's Mum's Dog PTS who I looked after every morning all morning at 13 months old as she'd got nasty with all but me.
(Border Collie x probably Greyhound, in case anyones wondering). The thing is, i'm not seeing anybody saying it's ok that this Dog is terrorising the OP, it's NOT ok, it IS a risk & something most definitely SHOULD be done right now. But all this calling for banning certain breeds/weights etc & muzzling etc isn't gonna change much.
Unfortunately maybe alot of the Owners of these Dogs aren't responsible enough to own a hamster let alone a Dog, and they probably wouldn't comply with the law, that's not to say it shouldn't be changed it should, but it might not solve much. We're just saying that it's not only Dogs that kill, Dogs are way below alot of things that kill but you can't ban everything just in case.
I think tho that we all agree the OP is right to be concerned & should get help asap? Did she update on the police visit today (Think it was today?)0 -
You raised it as an issue. I simply pointed out if you consider it such an issue do something about it.

This is exactly the attitude from Tigerlily & others on this thread that has raised my hackles & disturbed & saddened me.
All this "horses do this & that". Horses don't live in houses & kill sleeping babies, horses aren't generally wandering residential streets or jumping into peoples gardens & attempting to attack them.
I can't believe the callousness people talk about a child's/babies life & safety compared to a dog & dog owners rights.
I'm an animal lover, I have a spoilt cat, BUT I know that if my cat were a risk to the local kids I would have to put it down or lock it up. It would be incredibly selfish of me to think others should change their behaviour so as not to antagonise my pet:rolleyes:0 -
... oh...I just thought we had got back on track there thanks to Tigerlily.
....anyway, lets pretend we have.
Yes, I agree, I wonder if the OP has had any advice/input from the police or community warden yet??0 -

What I did was suggest that criminals and thick people shouldn't be allowed to own dogs.
But you using keep using strawman arguments in a desperate attempt to steer the topic away from the OP (which is about dangerous dogs and their owners) and considering the seriousness of the subject matter that is offensive.
Considering you advised someone to conceal the crime of dog theft on another thread in this forum I am frankly pleased you dislike me so much.
Hitler hey? Good evening Mr Godwin!
Oh yes gassing men woman and children is really similar to wanting to force dog owners to behave responsibly.
Congratulations you just spat on the memory of every holocaust victim and every soldier who died in battle in that war.
Well done you!*Make every day Caturday*0 -

This thread is about dogs, DOGS, DOGS, DOGS, not ponies or bunnies or kittens!!!!!!
What is wrong with you?
Who wants to ban dogs?????
Are people on here paranoid they won't be classed as fit to have a dog if those sort of laws came in:rolleyes:0
