tut tut tut. so sad.
dustangle, your comments lack any wit, and make you out a twit to be honest. seems all you do is sit on the pc and judge people - pub bore? class yourself a billy no mates eh! social outcast thats what us experts label your like.
the tv sales - how about a little observation? next post you see marked as a tv sale which ends at 6pm the following day new year special blah blah, follow it and note down when the sale came to light, how many tv's were in the sale, how much they were being sold for and how quickly they went.
then do this for all the tv sales, you might get a fair idea of the number of people who fall for it. you dont have to be an expert, just observe. think you can do that? it might require the use of that thing in your head us 'experts' call a brain. i doubt it, judging by your previous posts you seem to be the 'cream of the crap'.
dont speak for everyone hey? maybe i do know something you dont..hold up..fact..we all know alot that you dont know.
you dont need a degree to do a little analysis for yourself, you wouldnt know a thing about that though.
The science bit! haha! you prove to us all what a simple minded muppet you really are! everytime something intelligent comes up, your mind wades! thank you for that! oh thank you so much for you own demise!
had a few run-ins with the security guard at comet have ya? put you in your place one too many times eh? aww let it go big guy, let it go, back to the councilcrap estate you go.
CFC - no one wants to know what price you paid 2 years ago! this is a matter of 2 months! no one would regret a purchase of necessity two years ago to now! duh!
ringo - having 5 posts or 500 posts doesnt prove anything. nothing at all. so no need to cok ya legs. ive been with MSE since the beginning with regular contributions. this account i use is simply because i took some time off the internet, dont remember my old account details.
the tv's cost £1000-£2000 a few years ago because thats when HD plasma/lcd was introduced!??
that link is to an old article. the date is in the link. alot has happened in a year. just to point out........
i have mentioned only one manufacturer mass produces laser tv's in the main post!
if you bother to read, ive also indicated i know abit more than what the internet tells you.
think ill leave you guys to it and help out people with real problems whom people like dustingle probably screwed over. have fun.
dont spam the thread dustingle.. us normal (experts to you) can actually make sense of the OP you know.

It's fairly inevitable that TVs will now go down in price. Putting the economic crisis aside, the majority of TV lovers have now done the CRT to flat screen switch....so manufacturers are now chasing different technology changes to keep us chumps buying new higher-end flat screens, and lowering prices on the no frills models (probably to pull in the last CRT switchers). BUT, I also don't think prices will sink below £300/400 (except for very sh1tty models), because manufacturers always need a decent gross profit margin. They will simply discontinue old models, and offer new ones with different technology and scare us with the need to future proof etc.
Frankly, if someone needs a TV just buy one. There are good deals out there. Okay, you may lose some money buying it now rather than a few months later, but that can be applied to just about every technological product. If you're obsessed with getting the lowest price, you'll be waiting ad infinitum.
Personally, I'd buy buy from John Lewis or M&S because they offer good warranty deals.0 -
Wow. I'm so glad I popped into an internet cafe and read this thread. It's confirmed everything I thought about the way consumerism works. It's just one big con.
Now I can get on with my day. I'm riding my penny farthing home to wash some clothes in a big bucket of water, then dry them through a mangle. Then I'll probably crank up the crystal radio, boil some water over the fire and have a nice cup of tea. Once I've washed up - by hand of course - I can think about getting the dinner on. Shouldn't take long for the clay oven to heat up - just a couple of hours.
Yes.. I'm so glad I didn't fall into any of these retailers' cunning traps and buy anything new, ever.0 -
won't the weak Sterling rate mean that imported TV's will cost MORE?"To be ignorant of one's ignorance is the malady of the ignorant." Amos Bronson Alcott0

Yep. Stock on sale now is bought and paid for by the retailers (or at least price agreed if not invoiced). In the next few months they'll have to pay more due to the exchange rate for stock coming in.
Japanese companies are rumoured to be scaling back production too, lesser size produciton run means the economies of scale change and that may push costs up too. Balance that with the fact parts are getting cheaper and no one wants to buy big ticket items and no-one know what will happen.
DSG going into administration is a persistant rumour Wapow seems to be promoting in many threads. I can't see anything that says either way that DSG are in trouble other than they've had a few lousy quarters and they may shed stores and jobs. Sure they may go, but then so could so many other stores. Zavvi was obvious when Woolies went as they relied on Woolies for CD's and DVD distribution, I've yet to see anything that really points to DSG as being in trouble other then hearsay, rumour and stuff heard from a mate who heard from someone in the pub that.....
FWIW we bought a 42'' Panasonic with Freesat built in, the price has moved from £1200 to £900 and now back to £1000. It was agressivly price cut by retailers prior to Xmas as they fought on price on this model and we bought it in that time. Could we have got it cheaper next year, probably, but as has been pointed out, it's been working beautifully as is, and I don't regret buying it at all. Any item will come down over time, just buy it when you need it and don't worry about it afterwards.0 -
Surely TVs could/ do drop by £200 overnight when store have 'sales' etc? If people waited for the best price they would never buy anything.0

I think I understand what you say wapow, and where you come from on prices/technology. Whilst I understand your points, I make the following observations:
- We can always wait for the next big technological change thing around the corner - I bought an LCD television last yr upgrading from one that was over 20 yrs old!;
- We can expect prices to fall because of the trend - but there is a floor below, which the price will not fall. CRT televisions reached their floor price at about £250-£300 depending on the brand;
- One major reason for the current level of pricing is oversupply and selling products that one has manufactured even if it is at a loss is better than to have the product sitting in the warehouse. Manufacturers, retailers, shipping agents etc all need cash to pay suppliers, service debts, pay employee wages, tax etc.;
- Manufacturers are scaling back production and therefore, in my personal opinion, I think prices will only rise in the short term;
