I feel for those buying TV's....

  • I think it's entirely pertinent to make the claim that unless your current (CRT) TV is malfunctioning or in any way embarrassing you in front of your technologically-seduced friends (maybe change your friends?), it really is financial folly to actually buy an LCD/plasma TV at the moment.

do you really think buying a couple of hundred quids worth of tv is financial folly - gord wants you to spend - you know it makes sense. ( no point having savings when the currency is devalued and interest rates are butchered to reward the profligate - so spend spend spend)

    hey trace_567 you wrote..

"how about feeling for those that bought tv's a year ago and more seeing how much more they could have got now for the money."

    which is why i wrote..

"trace substantiates what i am passing on. TV prices are not going to go up. They will fall further. Which is ultimately what this post is about."

    you follow?

no point even paying attention to that fool donnykebab. let me just say this though 'bell-end'..im talking about the same product for £100+ less**, or better, in a two month period. two month period. not six months. not a year as would be standard, 2 months. so yes you numpty it is financial folly.

(for donnykebab - you'll probably get added extras like stands, mounts speakers, the £100 price drop is a minimum amount, higher end spec tvs will drop less than the stuff people are buying now. if you bothered to pay attention to the thread i wouldnt have to explain this and you wouldnt have had to post that drivvle you call a reply -

this is a MONEYSAVERS FORUM, if you wish to spend spend spend and not save because your 'god' wants you to spend, youre on the wrong forum, muppet. oh you say gimp subscription..at this time of day you're on a computer mentioning gimps..maybe you should change ya name to gimpkebab) sure you and your friends have a merry old time :rotfl:

I bought a new LCD TV about six weeks ago. I debated waiting a few weeks, or even a few months, but I was already fed up with the rubbish picture on the cheap 26" LCD in my front room, and the 22" CRT was causing my bedroom furniture to buckle.

I did some research and then spent £485 on a new 32" LCD TV. I think it is fantastic. The picture is far better than I expected and I bought it on 9 months interest free credit. I really don't care if the price drops in the next few weeks or months - I've already enjoyed my new TV for a few weeks and will continue to enjoy it for the foreseeable future.

  • wooooooooooooow - so something that was ~£400 might be ~ £300 in 'a couple of months'. Crazzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzy - who'd have thought this kind of 25% reduction could ever happen. SSSSSSSSSShhh wet-one - if the big stores ever get hold of this kind of information they'll all be holding sales and special one day promos.
25% off you say - absolutely crackers - a whole £100 (or about 10€ in a week or two) off - when will this madness end.....................
Why not get back to your subscription of gimps talking sh*te monthly.

  • Everyone, stop buying PCs! They'll be out of date and cheaper in 6 months time!

My 32" Phillips cost £600 two years ago. Do I regret that I could now buy a similar tv for £350? Not a jot - what would I have done for 2 years; sat and watched my wall?

"what would I have done for two years; sat and watched my wall?"

maybe you could reflect on why you persist on making a fool of yourself!...
    or maybe that comes naturally...

your post has zero relevance to this thread! stop spamming it gringo!
  • The original post is a useful reminder to us all that there are some strange, obsessed people on the internet. The manner of expression is a major clue that we're dealing with a pub bore here.
"Soooo many people..." - an expert, but casual with it.

"Also, DSG Group ARE going into administration... " absolute certainty - it's almost as if he knows something we don't!

"Rather bland analysis i know. Trying to keep it simple." How kind, always thinking of the readers.

"Some analysts (like me) feel ..." He's a proper analyst, you know.

"Ok a little tech mumbo jumbo. HD successor? Ultra HD. Yup,..." Here comes the science bit!

"...OLED displays sooner than they predict. I'll spare the details." That's big of him.

An analyst? More like a security guard at Comet.

Tvs now are like pcs have always been. They will get better and cheaper over the years. The only question is do you want, or need a new one now?

I paid top dollar for my HD TV two years ago, and now see the equivalent available at half the price. But I have never, even at my most MSE, regretted buying it for one moment. It has been worth every penny in terms of the pleasure it has given me. :)
  • wow, for someone with 57 posts you sure think you own the place, don't-cha ?

Personally, i think wide-screen TVs will not sink much below £300 - purely because people are prepared to pay more for them. There are plenty of people who would sink £1000 - £2000 into a new TV set. A few years ago there were plenty of models at that price range in the shops but now there's a lot less. This means a whole lot of rich people don't have expensive TVs to buy.

It does feel like some new tech is due as big TVs have hit 'bottom end consumer' price levels. Since i can only find news reports on one manufacturer developing a consumer laser TV set, i think it's optimistic to think it's going to be in the shops next year.

Here's a nice article on up-coming competing TV technologies: http://www.reghardware.co.uk/2007/10/11/feature_future_display_tech/
