    Hi all :hello:

I'm new to this thread hope you don't mind me joining in! I've just started knitting in the last month and now I've mastered the basics I feel brave enough to start a project... can anyone suggest a good little starter project (other than a scarf - I'm half way through one!) you all seem to have crafted such lovely things well done :)
How about a handbag? A bit more interesting than a scarf, but you still don't have to worry too much about tension, as you're not going to wear it!

You can find free patterns on the internet or how about looking in the library for a book. There are a couple about full of bits and bobs you can make from one ball or skein.

Angela - glad you mentioned cutting up strips of card and arranging into shapes. Think I saw that in a magazine once, always meant to do it as I end up with loads of offcuts.........reminded me now to have a go. Thanks:j

she grinch - love the tea towel cake..........I did a littke flannel christmas cake last year with a bit of holly on top and put red ribbon round it to hold it together.

rufusdog - adore the dolls -want one for me !!!!:rotfl:

Was thinking maybe the teatowel cakes could be made into a box of 6 cakes made from teatowels, washup sponges, scourers as a gift for someone moving into their first home!!!

Just reading this I was reminded of a newspaper article about a local lady that was over 100 years old and she was still making things for charity. Instead of cakes, she made dolls from dusters, j-clothes and underneath the skirts there were sponges etc. I think there was a washing up brush to use as the dolls back..
  • When I moved into my first house my gran gave me a set of scourer j cloth and sponge made to look like a house. It looked like the playschool house (showing my age now:o)

Think I still have it somewhere 18 years and loads of houses later :D

Have just finished my first sock monkey and love him already but now plan to do load for xmas.
TIP-Got a large cushion pad in HOMEbARGAINS for £1.25 and used the filling to stuff the monkey-its lovely soft quality and is obviously fire tested etc so think l did well.
