I love your bag is it knitted and if so how does it not stretch when you have shopping in it?

  • rufus dog 52 - your dolls are beautiful, I'd be so chuffed if someone gave me one and I knew they'd made it themselves. Will you give them as presents or try to sell them?
I picked up some knitting needles in the charity shop yesterday and am going to try to teach myself to knit - I wouldn't imagine I'll ever to be able to produce anything like that though!

Thanks jailhousebabe, they are for presents. They were not that hard to make really, the clothes were mainly knitted rectangles. I think they look better because of all the lovely wool I got from Kemps. They worked out to about £3 a doll as I have made 5 of them. The pinl one shown is my 13 yr olds and she helped to knit the clothes for that one. She has only been knitting for a few months and can only do plain garter stitch so far.

I can't get over how nice they are. I have a baby niece who'd I'd love to be able to make something like this for. Maybe one day! I'll have to have a look for some online tutorials and start knitting.

Its well worth learning to knit. My Mum taught me when I was quite small, probably about 6 or might have been even younger than that. And its something you never forget. I hadnt knitted for years since my Mum passed away (1995) until I got the urge to try out these dolls. I have made a teddy for my OH too which is still being sewn together and yesterday I started on a cardigan for my grandaughter and have finished the back and two fronts already.

I am gradually teaching my daughter to knit, she isnt bad at it, drops a few stitches now and then but is on the way. She will sit for hours with it when its just me and her in.
  • Rufusdog, your dolls are brilliant. I love the little scarves and handbags! It's lovely when you can spend quality crafting time with your daughter, mine is nearly 21 but we used to sit for hours cross stitching together. Made her up a knitting kit for Christmas, don't know if she's started it yet. She's popping in tomorrow, might get her to bring it with her, in case she needs any help casting on.

Have just started a local stitch & b*tch with a friend of mine. We have our first meeting on 3rd February. Up to 6 people so far, so I'll have to get the camping chairs out of the loft!
