I just read on the 2008 thread about your glass block nativity scene. Do you have a picture of this that you could post as it sounds very interesting? It might just be the thing I am looking for and I am sure I could persuade my FIL to do the drilling part!;)

    Thank you

    Also, to everyone:

I have found this card template that I am really interested in and I was just wondering if anyone has any experience with anything similar. I am really wondering whether it is worth the £12.50 (inc p&p). I am a very experienced card maker so the making it isn't a problem, it's just that I normally do my own templates for anything 3D and dont like parting with my cash unless I know it's well worth it. Looks good though, althoug I am imaging a slightly more 'classy' colour theme than the ones shown!!!

Sorry everyone, just one more question. THis thread has really got my cogs turning!!!!

I am looking to invest in a sewing machine this year, something I have wanted to do for ages. When I say 'invest', my budget is fairly limited, so does anyone have any advice for something of good quality and reliability but at reasonable cost? I have never owned one before so really don't have a clue and when I am searching around there are so many I am mind boggled. I want to use it to make fairly basic items, sock monkeys, napkins, table runners, aprons, clothes alterations etc. Plus I have a pair of really heavy weight curtains that I want to shorten.

    Any suggestions?:o

    Hi all,

I'd like to join this, so far for Christmas 09, I'm doing:

    - All our yesterdays Cross stitch x 2. One is a punch and judy and the other is the holiday train. It will certainly keep me busy and stop me from munching on carp!!

    I'm also going to do:

    - A garden themed hamper for my dad.
    - A lavender hamper for my mum, she loves the marks and spencer lavender stuff.
    - My brother a selection box one - there are some great ideas on the hamper one.

My uncle is going to be 50 this year so I'm going to do him a pot of gold. LOL.

I', sure as the year goes forward, I will be adding more to this list.
    Sealed pot challenge 2009 - target £750. Dec - April £275

    April NSD - 15/20

Hope this helps with the glass blocks, this is the company that I buy my vinyl from http://www.theletterfactory.net/ scroll down for the glass blocks.....

1245414.jpg?432x190Please note this image is off her site this is not my work however the vinyl is so easy to work with, just remember that you can't move it once it's fastened down. fabulous lady to deal with on this site she is so helpful. I sent an image of a christmas tree that I liked and she posted straight back to show me similar options she could do. Also when she has a sale there are some good bargains to be had.

Think I need a vinyl cutter but have no idea what sort to even look at buying.

I would go for second hand. Start with a fairly basic machine - leave anything with a lot of fancy stitches for now. I would also go for a basic model in a quality make rather than an all singing all dancing machine from a less well known manufacturer.

You could look at freecycle, but if you decide to buy you could look at what is available second hand in a sewing machine shop. A lot of shops take machines in part-exchange for new models and there some bargains to be had. They generally give machines the once over before they put them up for sale and that way you will have the advice of the sales staff, you can go back for advice after you've bought it if there's anything you're not sure about and you have some comeback if the machine isn't what it seems.

You could get advice from the shop and then look at the small ads and see if there is anything there that looks good if you prefer.

Good luck and let us know what you decide to do.

Not sure if anyone has mentioned this in the past but I really wanted to print some slogans on t-shirts. Does anyone know how to do this anymore? I know i can get it done in some shops but hopefully it's got to be cheaper to do it myself....somehow!!!!:D

    Hi Nelmer,

Last year I had to print stuff onto T-Shirts for a uni project. There is a special paper which you can print on with the computer then iron onto the Tshirt. If I remember rightly it was about a £1 a sheet. Came in a pack of 5 I think.
So would work out quick cheap. I still have the Tshirt and have washed it a few times, still as good as new.
