Hi all you Christmas crafters,
I've been visiting the MSE site for a while now and receive the weekly e-mails but reading your ideas on here today has inspired me so much that I've registered and subscribed to this thread, thank you. I love giving presents and am so glad that there are other like-minded people out there who are already thinking about Christmas 2009!
Two of my new year's resolutions are to make gifts and save money so what better way to start than reading all of your ideas.
To add to the pot, here are some things that I have made...
- Christmas cards
- Gift tags (using old Christmas cards)
- Jars of Christmassy pot-pourri (I saved transparent coffee jars throughout the year)
Three hampers - two of which contained the recipients favourite edible goodies, Christmas bath bubbles, a mini hairbrush, mini shower gels, a mini perfume atomiser, a luxury body puff/mitt and a candle.
The third hamper was a gardening themed hamper, in it I put - a nail brush, soap, hand cream, a gardener's diary, gardening gloves, a box of truffles and a grow your own peppermint tea set (the recipient's favourite).
I bought the baskets from Wilkinsons, they were £2.99 each and all of the things I put in the hampers were less than £3 each, nearly all were a lot cheaper than that. I bought the cellophane from ebay and the hamper filling from Lakeland. I decorated the finished baskets with ribbon and bows.
I have already bought the contents for a 'gold themed hamper' for my Aunt for her birthday - a toblerone (her favourite), a luxury cream coloured body puff/mitt, magnolia shower gel, a mini wooden hairbrush, a large gold nail file, a gold make-up brush set, a loafer, a candle, a mini wooden dream catcher and a small mirror.
We are going to give my boyfriend's sister a box of lots of pink things for her birthday in a few weeks time, in the box we have - a bottle of pink bubble bath, a gorgeous notebook with pink and purple gemstones, a pink camisole set, a Piglet mug, a compact mirror, a flannel, a lipgloss keyring, socks and a purse. I have bought some pink shredded paper for the filling from Hobbycraft.
I can't sew, crochet or knit, so my art and craft making skills are limited. I wanted to do some baking this year but didn't have the time, that will go on my list for next year! For Christmas 2009 I also want to decorate notebooks and put together mugs with chocolates and sweets in.

Lucy - welcome :j Seems like you've been busy and well organised. The hampers sound lovely.
I can't knit or sew (well other than very basic) either so I'm a bit limited but its amazing what ideas there are around. I never realised so much could be done at so little cost. I was too late for 2007 but worked at it for 2008.
I made door hangers, pots of gold, shoe fresheners (used baby shoes), covered cheap notebooks with nice paper, same with diaries.
The things you can do with flannels are brilliant, same with jars - seems anything can be in a jar and look good.
I've loved it and I'm sure you will.:TMary

Thank you Mary, it's great to be on board!
The hampers went down really well and I'm sure my boyfriend's sister will like her box of pink things, I will let you know at the end of the month!
Does anyone else have any other ideas of things to make that don't involve sewing etc?
Lucy
