Did I miss something last year? What is a signature bunny? Evdfybody loved their home made gifts this year - haven't thought about next year too much yet (just I'd like it a little less busy and not so many people being ill!!!)
Like the dammit dolls - got to do that.

Stardrops - I like your monkeys signature better than mine can I have it too (maybe with a number or something)? I've got 8 to make - they do get addictive:D

Definitely going to join this thread , only made a few homemade pressies this year but they were very well recieved. did facts jars for brother and brother in law and giggle jars for grandparents( empty jar filled with giggles - poem attached), and guilt free sweet treats jar for hubby- layered dried fruits

I thought i might make a fabric bag for odd socks applique a sock on the front- need a poem though something about all the odd socks being drawn to the bag by the one on the front so you'll never have a pile of odd socks again
    any ideas?????
i'm sure i saw something like it at a craft fair years ago but it was a wooden plaque with verse and a sock clipped to it- or something like that :)

the whisk full of chocolates could be filled with marshmallows too and wrapped to attach to a mug or snowman soup

donna - like the idea of the sock bag..............someone here did a row oof pegs for odd socks I think but can't remember who or where the piccy was.

stardrops - love the dammit dolls, can think of a few people who could do with one (including me sometimes...............lol)
I don't have sewing machine but they look easy enough to hand stitch.

  • Im going into town tommorrow to get some material and boxes to make the dammit dolls they are great! :j
I think the dammit dolls will make fantastic gifts that will amuse people.
I also think that presenting them as they do in the cardboard tube makes it look more of a gift.

For those who are into altered art could decorate a papier mache box to put the doll in. I got a lovely medium shaped heart box in hobbycraft yesterday and have just applied the first coat of hot pink acrylic paint to it and it looks great!
I got the box as I make silk lingerie and the box is just the right size for presenting the lingerie in - would also be great for those out there making valentines cookies or truffles for their loved ones, just line the box with pretty tissue, followed by a sheet of greaseproof or baking parchment, place the cookies on the baking parchment, fold around the cookies, then do the same with the tissue and secure with a personalised handmade by... sticker.

They have all different types of boxes to decorate in Hobbycraft and you could really go to town... an idea is to make a dammit doll out of grain sack material - a bit like a scarecrow, then decorate a papier mache box with a "primative" theme, ie gingham ribbon, hand drawn stitch detail, brown parcel string etc. Inside line the box with straw or shredded brown paper.

Another idea is to use the good old tin cans for presenting the dolls, take a thoroughly cleaned and dried tin can and paint using acrylic paints - Anitas Crafts do these in Hobbycraft for 97p a pot- there is enough in each pot to paint around 20 average sized tins. Or take a length of brown paper, wall paper or even thick wrapping paper and create a wraparound for the tin. Sit the doll in the can and pack the spaces left in the can with shredded paper or tissue and let some of this spill over a little for decoration. Finally pop the tin containing the doll into a large cello bag or use a sheet of cello as you would for a hamper and gather together and tie with raffia.

  • I love this idea for decorating photo frames- could also be used for scrap booking and card making.

For the dammit dolls, I was thinking I'd present mine in a hand-made drawstring bag (should be relatively easy to make even for those who, like me, have no sewing machine). The poem could then be either attached to a tag on the drawstring or written/printed on a nice piece of card placed in the bag with the dammit doll.
some people grin and bear it, others smile and do it :)

I've got (or will have) three twiglet tubes -would they do to put the dolls in or would they be too big ? I suppose I could always make small ones and then they'll fit in a gravy granule tub. Forgot to look on the site at how they were presented

Been carrying on with my clear out and found two flower fairy soaps and two address books I meant to give my friends at christmas...........lol The way I keep 'finding' things at this rate my upstairs spare room will be filling up fast..................lol:rotfl:
