Hi everyone I know its a bit late but Happy new year!! I am so glad that someone started this 2009 thread already - I was beginning to feel a bit down as the last one had finished and was missing you all! some great ideas already on here thought I might have a go at a ginger themed one this year? I made three hampers for girls and three for boys ( three couples) and they were really well received for the girls were sock monkeys pj's pj bags decorated t light holder snowman soup and mug and journal jars and the boys got pj bottoms snowman soup pots of gold and some fun bits to fill it up. My aunt was really thrilled with her foodie hamper which was themed to her as she has crohns disease and can't eat a lot of things so bought her things she can eat but sometimes can't afford to buy. Mum got a sock monkey with her dressing gown and slippers. Only problem was I had forgotten to make sock monkeys for my DS's (2) and have just finished them now! Have made in total 12 sock monkeys and would make again but only after a long break! Please can I join SMA (sock monkeys anonymous) too?
  • Hi sheyo

Of course you can join SMA:rotfl: I think you will be member No3;)

    Diet starts today(31/12/16)! Only 18lbs to lose:eek:

  • For the dammit dolls, I was thinking I'd present mine in a hand-made drawstring bag (should be relatively easy to make even for those who, like me, have no sewing machine). The poem could then be either attached to a tag on the drawstring or written/printed on a nice piece of card placed in the bag with the dammit doll.

    Hi Jailhousebabe

I think the drawstring bags are a great idea, I was thinking of making drawstring bags for sock monkeys but in the end I just didn't have the time or the energy:D

Can I join this thread? I'm loving some of the ideas on this thread already and as i am sick of only ever using my sewing machine to shorten curtains I am going to make many presents this year. :j

The big day has come and gone and the flannel reindeer and cupcakes were well received. :A Snowman soup all drunk and Pots of gold all chuckled over, with the occassional winner! :jat My themed hampers were oooohed and ahhhhed over and now we begin again anew for Christmas 2009. Trouble is I can't repeat this years gifts as they have all been done, so the challenge will be to find new ideas
    .
My first idea is to make fabric advent calenders for the 3 youngest members of the family and rag dolls as they are all girls..............
    Any more idesa out there???????
Let the challenge begin ladies, we can do it, we can create lol:j

Hope I can join this thread??

What are pots of gold incidentally?

I have ordered some crafting bits from Craft Superstore so that I am well stocked to make all my xmas cards for next year in good time and not end up staying up late like I did in December just gone trying to get them done so that I could post them off before last posting date !!

I also intend to finish the cross stitch kit I bought to do for a friends wedding (she got married Oct 07!), also the kit I bought to do for my OH which I was doing for his 25th birthday (he is now 33 ) the birth sampler for my brother in law's new baby ! only born in december!! and a fab kit I got for xmas so that makes 4 cross stitch kits and lots of cards. I intend to be ultra organised this year. I included some clear bags in my craft superstore order so that I can make my cards and keep them safe well in advance of when they are needed so that im not at the last minute buying an overpriced card.

I also hope to use the glass painting stuff and quilling bits that I bought last Feb! There are just not enough hours in the day. Im meant to be studying for some exams which I take in May so my craft time is going to be somewhat limited for the next few months but Im going to make saturday afternoon craft time so that I have something to look forward to each week :D

nb i almost forgot to mention that I have pestered everyone i know to give me their unwanted xmas cards so that i can recycle them for my crafting. I can use them to cut out the "Merry Christmas" etc and some of the cards have some really nice festive pictures which can be cut up and used again on my hand made cards and best of all, its all free

Love is the answer. At least for most of the questions in my heart,
Like why are we here? And where do we go?And how come it's so hard?

Candy bracelets are usually on stretchy thread-type thing (you know what I mean, lol). Maybe try to find something like that (but stronger?) to make it look more authentic?
some people grin and bear it, others smile and do it :)

    yeh that kinda thing :)
but no idea at all where id buy it from or even if the bracelet will last so im making a test one for me to wear - i am the worlds most clumsy person and normally manage to break any bracelets people give me with the nylony elasticy thread in them.

Just had a random thought then - those kids scooby bracelt things that where in fashion a few years ago think thats the only bracelet Ive never broken - hmm will have to root in my aunts house as my cousins had loads of them strands at one point

Link to pots of gold posted by Rusty Flange. I bought clear acrylic bowls with gold spots from Poundstretcher and filled mine with gold coins, Ferrero Rocher and 2 crunchies (DH's favourite!) and 5 scratch cards, but all the others I ommited the crunchies and just added 1 scratch card, the childrens version contained no scratchcards.

I was just thinking we could have a...
pot at the end of the rainbow - filled with smarties, skittles and any other multi coloured sweets
Pot , box or jar of love - filled with love hearts
Pot, box or jar of smiles - giant chocolate buttons with icing or piped white chocolate smiley faces on!
Bug jar - for young boys or girls- filled with jelly sweets (bug shaped of course!)
    The possibilities are endless

These could perhaps be included with flavoured vodka or in a cocktail themed hamper
