was at the car boot sale yesterday and picked up a few bits and pieces for the christmas stash :j

4 old lps to be made into fruit bowls for £2.00
2 denim mini skirts for £2.00 to be made into bags
3 pair of jeans £1.50 bums for aprons and legs for hot packs and rose broches
and one skirt for 50p to adge aprons and other bits and bobs

so not a bad wee collection :T and plenty of items to be getting on with and have an idea about old jam jars and fairy light but have to look into this a little more and a few samples before i reveal anymore

Wow - This sounds like a whole new thread coming on!!!!!! Can't wait to see the results. Do keep us up to date!!

This cold weather has its benefits - best to stay in the warm crafting rather than out in the garden tidying up and sorting the shed!!! I bundled myself up in a blanket and got on with my nativity figures over my first cup of coffee this morning. It's minus 6.5 here, so not as cold as in some places but still cold enough for me!!!!!!!

    Evening all

    Im looking for inspiration :p
Years ago my mum was going to throw out her wedding dress  ..now I claimed it..im a sentimental old thing ;) ..now there was no way I was ever going to fit into it..teeny tiny thing she was... it has been sat in a box forever -so Im considering making it into something for my mum ti have back-
    but WHAT????
I haven't got a sewing machine - so will have to rely on hand sewing  -now I can x stitch like a demon -but Im haven't hand sewn much....

So I'm open to ideas as to what I can make for her (I don't think she even realises I still have it :T ) -oh its a heavy brocade kind of fabric if that helps
the smaller pieces like the sleeves Im thinking of making a pin cushion and and needle/scissor holder (she x stitches too)
I also have fabric leftover from my bridesmaid dresses (mum made them ;) ) so I can mix the 2 if need be..
Please feel free to come up with any suggestions -Im at a blank -apart from a cushion -which isn't that special is it
    Hi Mrs M

oh dear, i'm afraid that knitting might not be my thing, I did a row and a half last night and was already bored and exasperated (wouldn't have thought those two emotions could exsist side by side but they did last night!) I don't think I'll have the enthusism to keep going for long...
but on the plus side I did start on a valentine's card which is going well :-)

I do cross stitch and love it but tried knitting when I was pregnant with DS2 and I was awful so gave up soon after starting. I have kept the 2 blanket squares I did manage to produce for DS2 baby box!

I was thinking you could redress the Christmas tree angel - make her a new dress.
I know you said not a cushion/pillow but they make linen/cotton sheets that you can put through a printer now. You could print a wedding photo on one and use it like a quilting panel then make a cushion. Bit more exciting but I don't know how well these work. I wanted to make a whole quilt but it's difficult to get supplies here.
Whatever you decide on I'm sure your mum will love, it's a really thoughtful idea.

I also want to have a go at making some felt snowmen and other christmassy decs to drape across our dresser..............is there a site I can find a template ? Dread to think what my snowmen would look like if I did them freehand.................lol

Hi Mary (and everyone else!), I borrowed this book from my local library and it has a wonderful garland made of felt gingerbread men, stockings etc and has all the templates in. I would recommend borrowing it from the library as there are loads of amazing gift ideas and wrapping ideas in it too along with handmade cards, food items and decorations. And no, I'm not working on commission :A

vickjayne - pink voile - you could use some of if as a wrapping for hampers instead of cellophane. I did one last year for my friend and used voile I had (white with roses on) and it looked ok.

sian -thanks for that, I've made a note of it and if I get stuck I'll hot foot it to our little library

All this cold weather and I feel I could be making something for christmas/birthdays but can't get in the mood........is it just me ?

  • Hiya everyone,:hello:
Does anyone have any really good craft books???
And if you do can you reply with the names please???(It doesn't have to be specific, it can be anything, although it must be suitable from twenty-somethings and upwards) I know i can easily access step by steps on the net, but my family need bday present ideas for me:D

Hi Jordan Shannon, I am a keen crafter in my twenties and these are a couple of the books I have most enjoyed recently. I am not a very good sewer and was quite a new scrapbooker but each of these books covered a range of projects that could be completed by people of differing abilities

oooooooooohhhhhh !!!!! I'm so mad - need one of those dammit dolls !!!!!

Just put the poem on Word with the pattern so I could actually start something and all the silly printer does is tell me 'paper jammer' -I checked and there's nothing jammed at all !!!
Then is proceeds to slide through blank paper.............why couldn't it print something on it ? If the paper can go through there's nothing jammed............until I ask it to print something !!!!!

Sorry -had to have a small rant to stop me taking small lump hammer to printer...............bad enough my letter 0 falling off keyboard............

Moan over...................and going to cover a notebook -don't need technolgy for that and maybe I'll at least feel I've done something:o
