I know someone asked a similar question earlier, but I also want to grow something as a present this year. The difference is, i wanted a plant or flower, something easy for my little girl to grow as a present for her grandad. Someone has suggested a poinsetta, but not sure how easy that would be for her to do. ideally, i would like to see something that is just starting to come out over christmas, or maybe something he can plant in his garden and keep.any ideas?

I think those amarylis (?sp) plants are meant to be good or is that just my imangination?? My mumalways used to get one for Christmas whwn I was little ..... I think!

This one could be done by the children or for the children
    as a door hanger
    wall decoration
    gift tag
or with wooden letters as a more permanent decoration

    CANDY CANE SEEDS
(*Use red and white preferably peppermint sweets*)
I once knew a gardner who knew how to grow
Bright tasty candies, right out of the snow
I asked him to share his secret with me
And this is what he replied quite readily
To garden in winter is difficult you see
It takes lots of care and a very special seed
I'll give you a couple to grow your own treats
And you'll soon reap a harvest of candy cane treats.

Thisyou could get the kids to scatter in a pot, the garden, window box anywhere on xmas eve and in the morning it could have grown by elf magic, candy canes

HI everyone just a quick question, does anyone know how to grow ginger? does it grow from seed or do you plant a piece of root ginger? Have decided to make a ginger themed hamper you see as my cousin is into alternative health. Also saw the gingerbread terracotta person at the beginning of this thread and thought I could make a heat pad to go with also the pan pot and some ginger tea possibly bath stuff too - the list is endless but thought I could add either a growing ginger or the bit to grow (seed etc) many thanks

Hi Sheyo - googled and came up with this:
    How to grow ginger
So it looks like you can start with shop-bought ginger root.
some people grin and bear it, others smile and do it :)
