shaz_mum_of _2 Thanks for the link to the wool shop, I have just bought loads of small balls of wool in lovely colours to try to make something like Sethsgran showed us (the dolls with clothes). Hopefully will have enough to do the clothes for 4 dolls, 1 pink, 1 blue, 1 lilac and 1 green. Might even have enough for a few more if I use the colours mixed. I have some white, not sure what ply it is but will have a look later and see if I can come up with a dolls head, body and arms. The wool came to £15 inc pp so doesnt work out much each doll. I used to spend between 10 and 15 on each of my nieces for Christmas but last year knocked this down to under a tenner each by making them baskets and sock monkeys. Will have a look in Wilkinsons next time I go up town and see if they still have the packs of felt so I can make some boots.

You were very decisive if you have ordered your wool allready :T .. I go on Kemps site -look, decide, think about it, look some more -then they add new wools  ..so I look again -then I eventually order :o and all the time my order is growing :rotfl:

Sistercass - thankyou -but I have to confess that they are soooooooo simple its silly :D ... The scarves take a bit of getting used to -Im used to nice neat orderly things -but once you get used to the fact that wool is suposed to fluff everywhere its a doddle... plus if you aren't a very neat knitter -the fluffy stuff will cover the evidence ;)

The bag is crochetted in the only stitch I have learnt -its suposed to be basic sticth -but Im not sure if it is :rotfl: -trust me its really quick to do -and easy .. just a rectangle folded in half :p

MRSMCAWBER I looked at the clearance wool and there were so many lovely wools on there I was clicking on nearly everything. When I had got through the lot I went in to the checkout and it came to nearly £20 and the pp would have cost £6 on top so I wrote out a list of what I really wanted and then went through and deleted some until it came under 1000 gr and the lower postage. I want the wool for dolls clothes so only need one ball per item so managed to get quite a few different textures and colours. I have saved the page as I might have another look after I have used this lot. Cant wait now for it to turn up.

MRSMCAWBER good job. They look lovely and I am sure your nieces will love them. I've had a look at the kemp website and keep picking so many wools for different things. If I don't make my mind up soon, it will be Christmas again! So much choice, so little time.
I got there - I'm debt free and intend to stay that way. If I haven't got the cash, it doesn't get bought. It's as simple as that.

Well this year all I gave which was home made was
    • retro sweet boxes
    • cranberry mince pies with brandy butter in a nice tin (Nigella recipe)
    • small Christmas cakes (Delias recipe.)
    • heart shaped rice filled decorations to hang on a door/ tree (see pic below.) I put some lavender oil in to make them smell nice but may try something cinammon flavoured next year,
For 2009 I intend to make
    • hyacinth bulbs in small wicker baskets/ pots. I bought one from Llidl for about £3.00 with 3 bulbs in and a small christmas dec (of which I have loads.) It has really made me think of Spring looking at it on the windowsill. Can't believe how much it has grown.
    • the above again as they went down really well.
    • although I love all the ideas on the thread not sure if I will ever actually get around to doing them (I am more of a dreamer than a doer.)

    Thanks CurlyTop

That is just the same problem as I have..I go straight to the sale section and then keep "throwing" stuff in the basket :p

In the end I have ended up with 5 patterns,
    2 pairs of bag handles
and 48 balls of wool :o :rotfl:
The total came to just over £30 + £8.60 postage(but thats good to get it out here to Germany) -but I have enough there for the rest of my youngest nieces knitting
    eldest nieces stuff
    mums socks and slippers
scarves for everyone else -plus plenty left over for my next projects ...
So pretty much all my xmas pressies are covered and I have lots of jewellery making stuff for making jewellery bits, and trying my hand at decorating candles :j

I can't wait to see everyone elses projects :T

He's lovely. I dont know anyone who still uses a tea pot in my family though.
  • Not exactly for xmas, but I'm so excited that I've made made something (other than cards/hampers/etc.) for the first time in ages that I just had to post it! I'll be making a nappy cake for my sister later in the year, so this will be used in that somewhere:

    ?action=view&current=S1050621.jpg

It only used about 20p worth of materials and I cut up an old pillowcase to stuff it. It's not perfect, but lessons learnt will make the next one even better!
some people grin and bear it, others smile and do it :)
