how about taking a piece of it and x stiching a picture and maybe the date they were married or something like that using waste canvus and then turning it in to a cushion. hope thast sounds as good as it did in my head been a long day lolMRSMCAWBER wrote: »Evening all
Im looking for inspiration
Years ago my mum was going to throw out her wedding dress  ..now I claimed it..im a sentimental old thing..now there was no way I was ever going to fit into it..teeny tiny thing she was... it has been sat in a box forever -so Im considering making it into something for my mum ti have back-
but WHAT????
I haven't got a sewing machine - so will have to rely on hand sewing  -now I can x stitch like a demon -but Im haven't hand sewn much....
So I'm open to ideas as to what I can make for her (I don't think she even realises I still have it :T ) -oh its a heavy brocade kind of fabric if that helps
the smaller pieces like the sleeves Im thinking of making a pin cushion and and needle/scissor holder (she x stitches too)
I also have fabric leftover from my bridesmaid dresses (mum made them) so I can mix the 2 if need be..
Please feel free to come up with any suggestions -Im at a blank -apart from a cushion -which isn't that special is it :rolleyes:13 in 2013 challenge 9/130 -
MRSMCAWBER!!! Ah, I had missed your input on all my favourite threads. Any advice on starting off some growing gifts? I know you are an expert and I like the idea of giving people things like herb baskets or seedlings...God is good, all the time

Not sure if anyone has mentioned this in the past but I really wanted to print some slogans on t-shirts. Does anyone know how to do this anymore? I know i can get it done in some shops but hopefully it's got to be cheaper to do it myself....somehow!!!!:D
Hi Everyone,
HAPPY NEW YEAR !!!!
This is great it's only January and I have people to chat to about next Christmas already :j - I wasn't really prepared last year due to a 16 day holiday in November and promising not to do anything for Christmas until we'd returned. However, I did manage to make:-- Hamper for my Grandad
- A diabetic hamper for my OH's Grandma
- Movie night bags for friends and relatives
- 2 self designed printed t-shirts, which we're a nightmare at first. (Nelmer I got my paper from www.craftycomputerpaper.co.uk who advised to use baking parchment or silicon to iron on the design - I can tell you that the baking paper did NOT work, the design stuck to the paper more than the t-shirt, but I got a silicon baking sheet from Home Bargains and that worked a treat)
- 2 Astronaut suits for my nephews, with a lot of help from my Mummy, which looked absolutely FAB, even if I do say so myself.
My husband was most impressed this year as just doing these few things myself we spent much less than we normally do, and as much as he complained about the mess everywhere and the lack of time he got my attention, I know he's a convert. How do I know this??? Because about 2 weeks before Christmas he asked if I had a box he could use........ and inside this very box on Christmas day was an assortment of liquorices, my favourites and new ones he'd found, it was lovely and so thoughtful :smileyhea

evening all
Still no further on with finding patterns to make from mums wedding dress -but I think I am going to go down the pillow, scented cushion route..with scrappy bits made into pin cushion, needle/scissor holder-so I will make it up as I go along :rotfl:
I have had a productive afternoon -Ordered rather a lot of wool -should cover all xmas pressies Im planning (plus extra)... and have attatched the tassles to the 2nd scarf, sewn up the 2nd -bigger crochet bag and done some more knitting on the 3rd scarf :j
I will post pictures tomorrow.... hubby declared that the bag would be "sellable"..not sure myslef but hubby reckons it looks like something from a craft shop
Hi sian ...Not any expert by any stretch of the imagination :rotfl: -and I only usually grow stuff if I can eat it... most things are really easy to start off on warm window bottoms ... if you let me know what you are looking at -I will help where I can
On a similar idea..and with xmas in mind... what about making up kits for folks to have a go at veggie growing... children would love to grow things -towards the end of the season seeds will be reduced and you could decorate some cheap plastic tubs - like the pots you get with faces on....
I have some tomatoes that only grow about 8" tall -great for little ones or folks with little space... oh and dwarf beans/peas...
Ok Im turning this into a veggie thread sorryoohh I have started a blog -that I will be running through the year -going into step by step growing where possible if it helps anyone

I know someone asked a similar question earlier, but I also want to grow something as a present this year. The difference is, i wanted a plant or flower, something easy for my little girl to grow as a present for her grandad. Someone has suggested a poinsetta, but not sure how easy that would be for her to do. ideally, i would like to see something that is just starting to come out over christmas, or maybe something he can plant in his garden and keep.any ideas?0
