Just to add regarding my last post, the device is saying no GPS Device, even though Tom Tom is installed
Been there, done that, now I want to do it cheaper!!
  • For TomTom do the following :

Open up GPS antenna so it is horizontally level
    Tap the map
    Click "Change Preferences"
Cycle to screen which shows "Show GPS Status"
    Click Configure
    Select "Other Cable NMEA GPS"
Set baud rate to 4800, click "Done"
    Select "Serial Cable on SP2:"
Wait for a couple of minutes until GPS signal is acquired
    Click Done

    That should sort you out.

There is a post earlier in this thread which details how to get signal level meter showing correctly.

    Hope this helps.

Do you find it takes TomTom longer to get a lock than it takes the Medion software?

I find it sometimes takes 5-7 mins to get a lock if booting from cold, compared to the Medion?
  • ramit, yep I do find that TomTom seems to take longer - although I haven't tried it since the 'tweak' posted earlier in this thread.

You're welcome! I reconfigured button 1 = Start and button 4 = X/close to be more equivalent to the screen configuration. Button 2 is now the mp3 player start. I could do with a macro utility for button 3 to get to the battery/power status screen.

I've seen reviews on PGPSW showing street names in the 3D mode but the Micromaxx/Navteq/Navigon only seems to offer that in 2D (unless I'm missing something?).

I hooked up the 2.5 audio out to my ICE but the level was very high even at it's lowest setting, and it's a very coarse control even for headphones, so I think I'll build an audio attenuator into the line. The 'announcer' has a nice voice, and in British English too! Makes a change from all those USAans on other 'talking' gadgets.

I know this may sound a dumb question but how do you connect the Micromaxx 150 PDA to the net etc etc ... what are the cost etc etc ....

If you have a wireless network in your house/office/etc then it's pretty straightforward - whack in a Wireless Wifi SD Card - see Posts by PompeySteve for more info on that.....by they go by the name SDIO - check Ebay / ebuyer etc and you should find the products. Not sure why but they only seem to be in 802.11b format (11MB/s); I woiuld have thought by now we would be seeing 11g versions of the card.....however I'm guessing that there may be issues with the power requirements for a G card.

Googling around for 802.11g and SDIO - I found a lot of people asking the same question.

Small article here : http://www.bargainpda.com/default.asp?newsID=2776 on Video Cards on SDIO and they make the comment "Also on Spectec's forthcoming list, a MiniSD WiFi card, and 802.11g SDIO card. Given that 802.11g CF cards have barely made a splash". Anyway if anyone wants a "potential" manufacturer here's a link to Spectec : http://www.spectec.com.tw/

As for costs - if you already have a wireless network you can jump on the costs will only really be for the Wifi card (I think PompeySteve said about 28 quid). Obviously firewall is advised on the device (might be a cost there but check the links given out in this thread).....you will (probably) already have the Internet connection out so that's it......as they say "job's a goodun".
What should I put in here that won't upset people.........

what size card do you need to squeeze TomTom & all the latest Gatso stuff on....is 256Mb big enough?

Also, where's the best place (read cheapest) for larger capacity SD cards?!!

Also has anyone tried using the supplied Outlook 2002 that came with their PDA? MAn that s/w sucks. It's ok if you're accessing one pop email server but if you use it to access hotmail ...uughh - horrible (freezes, times out & just general all round badness)

I'm not getting any road names come up on my navigation software (Micromaxx with Medion Navigator 5)

Is there an option to turn on road names that i've missed?

    Cheers
