rog2, stuff the champagne bars maybe your wife can bring some asti back from Italy (I'm dead nosey but why is she in Italy? )
I try not to generalise or stereotye but you do not sound like a typical Asda delivery driver, and I say that as someone who has a very varied job history:D it's funny the different jobs that I have had that have suited me at certain stages of my life.
Anyway well done on paying your tv lisence in one go (I've not managed that in 25 years:o) I hope you and Mrs rog2 enjoy your chinese:beer:
Now what was she doing in Italy eh  Olive oil buyer, pizza delivery with a big area to cover, ice cream heiress, pasta designer, opera singer, gondelier, cobbler or maybe an architect/engineer trying to right the leaning tower?

Hi OBNW - my wife is Italian - she and youngest daughter have gone to spend a week with her parents - both in their late 80's but 'fit as fiddles' :):) (something to be said for the Mediterranean diet/lifestyle).
Doubtless they will have their fair share of pizzas and ice cream whilst they are over there - hence the promise of a 'Chinese' when they get home.

OBNW - you are quite correct - I definitely am not the 'stereotypical' ASDA driver. I lost my business three years ago - after 'bust up' with HMRC  - and found that one of the 'advantages:confused: ' of being self-employed and having paid higher rates of taxes/NI for over twenty years is that when you need help you are entitled to none - nichts, zilch, nada   . I tried, and still am trying, to get back into the professional workplace, but unfortunately once you pass the magic 50 mark nobody wants to know - they don't actually say that you are too old (that would not be legal) but the 'polite' emails pointing out that 'whilst they will hold my CV on file other candidates were more qualified/suited for the position' say it all. I have only managed four interviews in over two years - one did offer me a job, but on a 'commission only' basis.
About 18 months ago somebody ran a thread on DFW asking 'Would you take a minimum wage job if you had no option' - hence my application to ASDA, where I remain to this day.:( :(
It is difficult to take the brown stuff that they dish out in the name of the 'Great Green God' and the money is laughable - even when compared to the likes of Tesco, but, at the end of the day it is money that, otherwise I would not get and it helps to pay the bills. I just tend to 'knuckle down' and try to let the ASDA 'hype' flow over my head.
I survive because I only see it as a temporary measure, although it is becoming rather less temporary as time goes on - I am continuing to look for
work that is more appropriate to my experience and qualifications, but it is difficult at the current time, so I'm grateful for 'small mercies'.
That said I applied for five jobs last week and three have come back to me - one with a definite interview next Friday - so fingers crossed.
But, in the true tradition of DFW, even if I am offered a full-time job, I will probably continue to drive for ASDA at the weekends - if only to keep the 10% Discount Card. :rotfl: :rotfl:

Hi OBNW with a butt! I'm back and consider myself suitably reprimanded! It's just been an incredibly busy month .... and suddenly it's the 20th. Only 5 days til payday for me! Less for you!

I wonder if there are any other Lewby's or Lewbs on here? It's a bit like identity theft to think that there are others of you .... I think you are the original!

Looking forward to a quiet weekend with the OH. Kids are off out and about so we have the place to ourselves til Sunday ;) The weather forcast is good so it looks like our walk will be on tomorrow ..... after a little lie in. Might manage a few G & T's tomorrow night too!

Hope you have a great weekend.

    Lewbs xx

Never did wallpaper my daughters room, still having problems with condensation in her room, double glazing/central heating/ hotwater tank/outside wall etc etc so will try and sort out ventilation first.
Lewbs I hope you enjoyed your G&T's
Rog I hope you enjoyed your chinese, and the best of luck for your interviews. You can tell me you'd stay with ASDA for the 10% discount card till you're blue in the face but I know it's the Lime Green Fleece you don't want to part from ;)
My youngest is 18 in April I need to save for that....any ideas, she says she does not want to celebrate as she does not want to be 18:cool:

The 'Chinese' will wait until my wife is back, OBNW. ;)

I am, at the moment, a bit spoilt for choice - she stocked up the freezer before she went. We went to Tesco, just before she went, and they had the 'Indian' take-home meal packs reduced from £7.95 to £2.00, so she bought two, thinking that there was only one 'curry' in each - but there are, in fact three. :T :T :T

So my most difficult decision tonight will be ; Chicken Jalfreizi, Chicken Tikka Massala or Vegetable? It's a tough life really.

I am allergic to the ASDA 'Fleece' and the 'trousers' that they issue are microscopically thin, and 200% polyester - result - freezing cold in winter and hot and sweaty in summer.

God, how I would miss that.

Rog2 look I had it all sorted out- your wife was due back this weekend as your youngest daughter had to return to school after half term! Now you are going to tell me that your youngest daughter is 46 and finished her A levels years ago.
Being allergic to the ASDA fleece is no bad thing, especially if it causes an angry red rash on your face, as I feel the ASDA green does tend to drain the colour from their employees faces _pale_
Great bargain with the curries....Hmmm I'll have a jalfreizi please:D

Not quite, OBNW - but not a bad guess - my daughter finished university, in Manchester, a year ago but liked Manchester so much that she decided to stay there.
I can't say that I blame her - it is a great city.

Good taste on the 'curry' front - opted for the Jalfreizi myself - will be tucking into it as I get my double dose of 'Corrie' this evening.

  • OK 3 days untill payday and I have done a slight miscalculation on my bank account:o I only forgot a 26.80 spend at waitrose but I will get away with it if my niece still has not paid in her birthday cheque (birthday was in January I've had words told her she is ruining my spreadsheet:p )
Anyway fingers crossed I don't go overdrawn!
Now my husband is losing his job, I don't know if it will be in two months or two years but it's going at some stage. I have managed to get the DFD to July 2011 so ideally the longer we can string it out the better, but I'm not hopeful and really can't afford to worry about whatif's too much:confused:
Come on payday come to mama!!!

  • :D Happy happy happy, getting paid tomorrow so will update my snowball and change my signature tomorrow....
Checked my internet banking and my neice does not seem to want the cheque I sent her so I'm still in the black Woo Hoo:j
Yesterday I had budgeted a whole £10 to go out with my very good friend for a birthday lunch, I invited her boss to join us and he decided to treat us  .
Wednesday night is of course pub quiz night, for some reason this week it was our sort of questions and we were 2nd:T so that meant a free night out.
I was going to put the money I saved yesterday into my highest APR credit card but I think I'll pop it in the kitty for my daughters 18th.
I spent most of yesterday trying to convince my boss I need to go to the US for some training ;) she is ignoring me:rolleyes: but I'm still hopeful.
rog2- good luck for your interview (I think I read somewhere it was on Saturday now) Did your daughter find a job easily after graduating then? My daughter is struggling, working hard on various internships but not finding that elusive permanent position.
Lewby- get back on here woman, I want to know how your walking is going. My daughters and I are doing the race for life this year (16/05/09 Regents Park one)
Nats hope the bath was good :p
I really should do some work now, but I've got a bit of a red wine head on today:o

Are you now counting down in hours?? :rotfl:

The bath was in fact a nice hot shower (very MSE!) ;)

Be back later, have a great day, hope the head clears!! :A
