You could just try holding his hand, its what I did when DD was small.
    Worked fine in car parks.

I do, but knowing that I'll be hefting another baby around too, with an energetic 2 year old, it would make it much easier with a railing to keep the Boy on the 'straight and narrow' if you get my meaning. I'm not completely incompetent, but like most people, if there's something to make life easier, I'll have it, thank you very much!

Morty - you're on the same lines as me mate, I wouldn't want to damage anyone elses car, but need the space to get the Boy out! I hate it when I park in a normal spot, with a child seat blatantly on display & within my lines, only to get back & find some inconsiderate driver parked so close to my car I can't get the door open. I have to juggle getting him in through the opposite door, haul my HUGE belly in to strap him in and wriggle into my seat OR stick him in the front seat & drive out of the space before being able to open his door - it's selfishness!

One of the other problems nowadays is that cars in general are getting bigger and wider and the older car parks are not designed with this in mind. There are some car parks that I can see a car not much bigger than mine (a Ford Fusion- hardly massive) would be a struggle to fit in a space- if you were heavily pregnant you wouldn't be able to fit between vehicles to get in or out so it IS an issue!

Most car parking bays comply with minimum legal width 1.83m.

As long as they are within the lines they are doing the same as you are,if they are over the lines then I agree, it is selfishness or/and bad driving.

I tried to park in the motorcycle bays in Southampton once and a disabled driver had parked all the way across it. Cheers. There were 3 motorcycles queuing up there all scratching their heads. I confirmed to them the disabled person could park wherever they wanted and we would all have to go elsewhere :(

And there was an empty car space next to where he'd parked. I was not best amused.

To be fair, I drive a 4x4 & they are a tad wider than a car.

Now I don't have a problem as its just usually me, if DD is with me & space is narrow she jumps out before I park.

But I could see a difficulty with wide cars (as cars seem to be getting bigger all the time) & narrow spaces & getting baby seats out.
If it is just you and DD surely you could be going in a smaller car as you would have boot + back seats/front seat (depending on where you seat her) for your shopping?

  • I'm well aware that not everyone's disabilities are visible (i'm classed as disabled, but you wouldnt be able to tell by looking at me) but i mean the people who arent disabled at all, and are just too damn lazy to park in a normal space (even though, at my local Asda, the normal spaces are closer to the door than the disabled ones!) they are either lazy, or can't park properly!
My OH walks with a stick at the moment (he has serious back problems - he's only 23 bless him) but he doesnt think he qualifies for a blue badge, which is a shame, he could really do with one to be honest, even a short walk leaves him in agony. bless the poor soul, he's on so much medication, if you shook him, he'd rattle!

And yes, we both had a good chuckle at the idiot who got the clamp. It served him right, we stuck up for ourselves!!!!! :rotfl:

Shes 21, she sits where she likes.

I pay for my car, out of my wages, when someone else pays for it, they can tell me what car to drive thank you very much:rolleyes:

And that's the problem a lot of the time in car parks - everyone is out for themselves, wanting that bigger, closer, nicer space! They don't think about anyone else, or consider anything other than getting in, getting sorted & getting home.

With regards to the regulation sizing, is that the same size that it's been for the last however many years please? Or has it been updated to encompass the fact that most cars have increased in size over the last few years?

    Many thanks

I can't talk for the person who replied earlier, but I took it that you were talking about a younger child when you said DD, rather than a grown woman! :D i do the same with my Mum if I don't have the Boy - turf her out & park up - I did it today in fact!

No idea if it has been increased recently, but it is the current measurement. I know this because my workplace re painted all the lines in October, and got the sizing wrong in some places! and they had to be redone......as they clamp if you are on or over the line,so it had to be legally enforcable.
