Oh dear :( I do put all my main exercise posts over in the exercise thread and I only usually do summaries here, but I know I've been talking about it more lately so point taken and I apologise.

Please don't do any more than you personally are comfortable with and that is medically safe.
  • Marion & victory. I'm really sorry you've been feeling a little pressured over the exercise thing. What you have both achieved in weight loss is fantastic. Marion - you have upped you exercise natuarally with walking charlie. Exercise is only good and sustainable if you enjoy it and you found somethng you enjoy and is very socialable, which is great for you as a shy person. Victory - does this come back to valuing yourself as you are again? You are 'good enough'. You deal with your arthrits with courage. And you know that the advice is keep moving, keep supple, but over doing it auses damage and is not advisable.

I feel no pressure what so ever from the exercising guys. I know I would find no pleasure in dvd's etc and that the pay off would be lousy on my health. I just couldn't sustain it and I wouldn't enjoy it. So if it helps you, I shall happily post my lack of exercise every day:D .

So today, my exercise achievements will be:
1)going up and down the stairs in the course of running my home/life (my sitting room is upstairs, my kitchen downstairs)
    2) later will walk 10 mins down the road to post 2 ebay parcels (made £88 so far). Return journey is uphill.
3)I have to do a small shop at asda and that's huge, so will be doing a bit ther.
All this keep my joints moving and my blood circulating: result:D

Missy, please keep posting - I like hearing about your exploits. Better folks are honest and we talk about the pressure to get rid of it, that to stop what is working for others

I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once

Please carry on posting exercise stuff missy as I think it does help keep us all motivated...(well me anyhow and I am a lazy lazy person)...in the same way as retired lady's SW meal plans do...the thread will even out into a balance soon enough. I think the key is to recognise what is within limits....I know I could never follow the classic victory bootcamp or have the dedication to stick to marions meal plans but I really enjoy reading them :D. The HHE has helped to increase everyones awareness of exercise but some of these have included soem nice useful tips like...putting up curtain poles count! So don't do down what you have achieved in comparison with others celebrate it...(wise words from Bb)

Same with the exercisers missy and fmm have alnmost convinced me that its possible to change habits of a lifetime if I give it a go..

dunno if any of that makes much sense but the whole LW journey should be about nutrition and exercise which will always be dictated by our own limitations, either mental, medical or motivational. So to target the most people and retain accessiblilty I think its important the thread maintains its diversity..

    edit
Forgot to say: well done for bringing up the subject though. tis hard sometimes to address things that concern you and you're point marion is as valid as anything - noone should feel like they have failed!

Woah there guys! Firstly, I'm really sorry that you have been feeling pressured Annie, Marion and Victory, that of course was not the intention at all. :grouphug:

Maybe looking at it from a different angle would help? We all come on here and post our (very) different ways of trying to lose weight quite happily - everyone respects each other's way of doing it and, as far as I'm aware, noone feels the need to compete with anyone else on the food front. Can it not be the same with the exercise too? You know yourself best and know what works for you and, more importantly, what makes you happy and healthy. There is no need to look at what others are doing and think 'I must be doing that too or I'm not good enough/trying hard enough'. We are all different with different needs and goals.

I think it's important to say that this is a weight loss thread - that means any (healthy) way which creates a deficit between calories in and calories out is appropriate here. If some people find that upping their exercise is a more helpful way to combat their WL than simply controlling their food intake, then that is okay. It is also perfectly okay to concentrate on the food aspect alone. Each of us has a personal choice in this.

As you know I can do very little exercise; you also know I find this incredibly frustrating, being a former marathon runner/hockey player/montain biker/triathlete/general exercise demon. BB - lovely person that she is - PMed me the other day to ask if I was finding all the talk of HHE difficult to cope with. And my answer is emphatically 'No'. I love the fact that people are encouraging each other to move their bodies in any way that is good for them at a pace they are happy with. I want to be 100% honest with you too, and occasionally I find it hard to read your posts Missy and yet I also love reading them and would hate for you to stop posting them - hard because I would love to be out there running the trails with you :D and fantastic because they bring back so many happy memories for me and make me more determined to find a way to get that 'buzz' again :T

I think the word 'exercise' can conjure up all sorts of latent 'demons' for people - loathing, guilt, inadequacy etc etc. It's important to remember that any movement is a form of exercise, it doesn't need to be something structured; BB gave perfect examples of using her body in a way that is kind to it and is helping her WL and health issues. Doing the same for your body and not allowing yourself to compete with others is the kindest way to help yourself (and this is from a person who is/was incredibly competitive). Perhaps we could consider changing the name to something like HHA (Half Hour Activity) to get away from the formal exercise association?

Much love to you all and I hope we can find a way to allow everyone to follow their own WL paths without judgment or pressure xxx

  • is it ok if i jump on?! :o

quick bit of dribble about me! i was really skinny as a child then i got to year 10 at school and came back from the summer hols a size 12-14 (was previousley a size 8) there was no change in diet or exersize.
went on to have my ds aged 19, went straight back into my size 14 jeans however i am now a size 18-20 and weigh 16 stone. (my son is nearly 4 now) and im 23.

so somethings happened! i think its because of being at home more and i dont comfort eat or anything like that but i do eat when im bored. so gradually ive turned myself into a right fatty (as i like to call myself!)

really need to sort myself out ive just been asked to be bridesmaid for my best mates wedding (thankfully not till summer 2010) and i cant be the only fat bridesmaid!!

ive watched the paul mckenna programme but not doing too well! i think i might join weight watchers tomorrow (with the bride and 2 other bridesmaids!)

Also what does HHE mean? im looking back through the thread and does it mean a daily exercise thing?! lol

so now ive bored you to death i'll read this entire thread for help!!

Does anyone have any tips to stop chaffing from sports bras?

Vix is the bra expert so she may be along to give you some pointers (in case it's the wrong size etc) but in the meantime Vaseline should sort you out :D

I'm a guilty youngun actually! Well, I'm 22, nearly 23, and I haven't studied for about 5 years or so because I knew I would be just like you've outlined above - Like to think I've matured a little more now and ready for serious study. I do find myself rushing occasionally to get the essays finished, but the grades are coming on OK so far :D Getting merry sounds good - Have fun :T

Ha im 22 aswell, but i've studied right through, and i do have a large sprinkle of immaturity at times! teamed with the fact im sick to death of education. More in terms of assignments, research, deadlines ect. I need a break from learning for a bit, i think i should have taken a year out before my degree but then everyone said i wouldnt have gone back to it so who knows!!

    good luck with your courses

I saw the word bra and it popped out at me straightaway!! ha.

Fredsnail: I would say youre too big somewhere, probably the band. My sports bra sticks to me like glue, its so damn tight i need help getting the thing off!! I wouldnt say going THAT tight, but i would say if you have a pull off/on one you should have a bit of difficulty getting it on and off. Ideally you wanna go as tight as you can, round, and just the usual in the cup. Try going down a backsize and up a cup size. So if youre currently in a 36F try a 34FF. They should come up a bit tighter than normal bras, but you dont buy a sports bra for comfort, its meant to do a job!

Oh and go for level 4 if youre going to buy a shock absorber one!

anymore help required, give me a PM cos i'll miss it on this forum, goes too quick now!
