i got a david tennant calendar forchristmas! it's v amusing actually, the images are all head and shoulders shots, with the same smile and the same hair. In fact, I suspect it's the same actual image with a different background photoshopped onto it. Diet has gone to hell on a handcart, but I'm planning a fresh start in jan. Glad to hear you all seemed to have a fun christmas! Just been trawling the O/S thread as i got a butter churn for christmas. I'm looking to test it later today so i'll be off up to the co-op to look for reduced price cream.0

I must admit to being a bit hesitant about weighing in this week, from my earlier posts you may have noticed I was losing it big time. Yesterday I think I reached my limit, was at the outlaws being offered all sorts of desserts and could only come out with 'I'm sorry but I really don't fancy anything...' - would have eaten a mince pie though but they weren't on offer
Happy to report a STS on a very irresponsible 17180, although 1.4lbs were 'residual weight' last Saturday morning from the meal the night before (missy will understand my logic on this one - possibly a bit random otherwise) - so perhaps it is a 1.4lb gain. Anyway, I am only 1lb over my 'happy number' so I shall tackle that shortly.
Only got one comment yesterday along the lines of I thought you only ate salad, ??? maybe once a year ??? I hate all the veg washing involved.
Good luck everyone else with your weigh ins.

Morning all!
Enjoyed hearing about your lovely walk Lesley! Hope you had the same gorgeous weather that we did here.
Lois - in case you don't get to see any more posts from me before you leave...:jHAVE THE TIME OF YOUR LIFE!!!!!
:j
All the very, very best for your adventure! Can't wait to hear a few updates along the way when/if you get chance.FFM well done for being the first to weigh in after Christmas! STS is excellent, and yes I do understand your logic but you accepted the 'false gain' last week so you can accept the rewards this week! What's the plan for this week and New Year, if you have a plan?I'm planning to stay off the exercise this weekend and eat relatively normally (1800/day ish). My exercise this week has been higher intensity than usual and I could do with a change to recharge before next week's efforts0 -
Hello everyone:wave:
I've been working my way through the site learning new skills to make me the best person I can be for myself and my family-and now I think its time to join you:)
Forgive the details, but I'm guessing being who you are, you'll all understand my need to outline how I got here-and where I'm trying to go.
I started last year with the flylady thread, learned all I needed to about keeping my house under control and giving me the time and motivation to live my life. Then in October this year I had my last cigarette-used the money I saved to buy tools to learn a new skill and have discovered I have a passion for cake decorating.
Ive not been on a scale for a while but OH has commented that Im getting smaller and last week I bought a new blouse in my regular size 20-only to have to return it. I finally got the right fit at a size 12:j
Im guessing my trousers have not changed much but I did weigh myself just now and found myself to be 86kg's. Ill need to get used to the lb system as I come from SA but Im sure I will get there.
I've used the links from the first post and found that to maintain my weight I should be taking in 2240 calories, so if I subtract a healthy 15% Im looking at 1901. Does that sound right?
So now all I need to do is work out how to count my calories and I'm hoping you will all be able to help me do that.
I'm looking forward to getting to know you all and becoming another one of your success stories:)0 -
Fantastic stuff Polkadot! Congratulations on giving up smoking and using the money for something so creative! I'm impressed (and amused!) that you chose a size 20 but really needed a size 12 :rotfl:
If you 'think' in kilos then feel free to post in kilos - others on here do too and it doesn't matter.
The 15% calculation looks right (without doing the maths!) The maintain number you start with will depend on how active you are, it's important to get this as accurate as possible without overestimating. Mine goes as follows:
BMR: 1271
Multiply by 1.2 for sedentary lifestyle: 1525
Plus exercise allowance 2000 cals/week: 1811/day to maintain
This in theory is my minimum - in reality I'm probably a little more active than "sedentary" during the day and I probably do a bit more than 2000 cals worth of exercise in a week - so I could perhaps eat 200 cals/day more than this and still maintain. In theory
Anyway GOOD LUCK with everything!0 -
Um... the exercise calculation just confused me a bit Missy, how would I work that one out? Id say at the moment Im a bit more than sedentary as I've stopped using the bus and now walk everywhere within about a mile. My friend is giving me an exercise bike though so Im guessing Ill add a few minutes of that each day once I receive it:)
Also, I've just been using my big oven programme which I normally use for my menu planning but am struggling a bit with my calories-how do you all do your menu planning?0 -
hello everyone. Back from family xmas. Have eaten buckets. My goal is to return to sw classes next Tuesday, so that gives me a few days to finish the extensive food parcel my mum packed up for me and to get through OH's parents xmas meal on sunday.
Big welcome to izzoh, sheryldoc, mambury, leverton, buttonmoons & polkadot. Thanks very much for sharing your various stories: it does help in getting to know you all. You are in very good company here: we are all very supportive, we come from all walks of live and a number of us have health issues so know how that can make things a little harder. My advice would be to post regularly and throw yourself into the chat straight away. That way you'll build up a sense of belonging with us (which you do) and it will help with the motivation. It also means if you slip up, we can get you stright back on the wagon rather than hiding for days:D . Oh , and we generally have a good laugh along the way.
FFM - thanks for holding the fort xmas day!!
For newbies, do read post one for info. I am doing the chart at the mo - post your weight loss once a week on the same day (but any day that suits you) in bright bold letter for me to pick up on easily. I collect everything and post a chart on wednesday evenings. You don't need to tell us your starting weight (though you can if you want), the chart is about accumulated losses. THERE WILL BE NO CHART NEXT WEDNESDAY. THE FiRST CHART TO BE POSTED WILL BE WED 7TH JAN, SO TO HELP ME, ALL NEWBIES, OFFICIAL WEIGHT LOSS starts after next wednesday. (you can accumulate all you lose from now until then in your first 'weightloss' post if you want if you are starting sooner). Thanks. You can of course post unoffical weightlosses if it helps you before, in your usual small black font
I think what ever method you choose to lose weight, it has to be sustainable and suit your life style. The best help we can offer is too pool our experience: like all the threads, there'll always be someone who can help.
izzoh & buttonmoons - you've had really difficult years. You dersever many congratulations for finding the strength to know turn yourselves around. POlkadot - I love the way you are working your way through the threads to change your life:T . I started here but have also moved onto the live on 4k challenge and that has really helping cut costs and reprioritise.
Leverton - well done for recognising the warning signs with your health. As someone with health issues, I would say health cannot not be too highly prized.
I'm not able to exersize a lot so can't hlp anyone there, but plenty can share their knowledge.
Lois - very excited on your behalf now:j
Victory - can you change the ring? (Lovely kind thought of DH though)
kpc - had to laugh at the butterchurn. Sounds great.
Right, one of my new resolutions is to spend a little less time on the computer...I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once0 -
Um... the exercise calculation just confused me a bit Missy, how would I work that one out?
Sorry if I confused you. You don't need to do that step in the calculation unless you do extra exercise sessions on top of what you would call your normal lifestyle.
So, for example if you think you are between sedentary and lightly active normally, then calculate the maintain number for both and take the midway point(Less your 15% to lose weight).
My additional 2000 cals allowance per week is based on 5-6 hours of formal exercise sessions, at least half of which is cross country jogging. I don't include things like the school walk - "sedentary" or "lightly active" covers those (remember "sedentary" means "mostly sedentary" - not that you literally don't move a muscle all day long :rotfl: )
Others on here are far more organised with their cooking and menu planning than me so hopefully someone will be along soon to help with that part0 -
Hello and welcome Mambury, Izzoh, Sheryldoc, Leverton, Buttonmoons and Polkadot.
Well after the who's coming to dinner saga, Christmas Dinner was fine if a bit strange. Food was great and all in all everything went well but I snapped at my brother for ordering my OH and I around like waiters and moaning about how the food was served! Told him to shut up as he was getting a free meal! Nearly got a round of applause for it and he settled down. Anyway felt ill just as we were serving up and spent Boxing Day in A&E with chest pains:rotfl: :rotfl: ! I've been put on blood pressure tablets as my BP was sky high (wonder why!).
Have now found that his stupid fiancee and her daughter have ruined my wooden floor by wearing 5 inch high heels! Would have told them to take them off but was busy in the kitchen and it didn't enter my mind that they would come dressed up for a family meal (the girl is only 14!).
So the day in hospital and waiting to see how I am on these tablets has delayed us going to the outlaws by a day, so there really is a silver lining to every cloud. Plus I was off my food so wasn't able to stuff myself as usual!
Familys don't you just love em?....... Well yes actually!
Enjoy yourselves!I would if I could but I can't so I won't!0 -
Hi everyone - can I join?! I have lost a stone with Tesco Online Diet club, and need to lose about 3 more stone
. I'm feeling positive but it would be lovely to have you peeps to chat to! Christmas is going ok, I'm not depriving myself (at all!) but am trying to avoid eating just for the sake of it - like the old Roses tin on the lap whilst watching a film...
Yeah i am worried about the cost of it. I am thinking of re-joinin gWeightwatchers, as £5 a week is better. But I am looking forward 2 my new start in January.
Thankyou for the advise! xx
Izzoh - I've found the Tesco online club really good because you weigh in each week and they give you a meal plan (which you can modify), there is live support from nutritionists, and there are support boards for chatting with other dieters (not as busy as here though!) and signing up for a year worked out at less than £1.60 a week. I can't do WW as I wouldn't go (I'm stubborn ) and I can't justify the expense. You don't have to shop with Tesco btw. Message me if you want more info!0
