leverton86 wrote: »Hi all,
Please count me in - I've tried allsorts of diets and not worked, lack of discipline, slimming world was most successful but I'm going for a different approach. Just eating a healthy diet, getting into home-cooked healthy meals and so on - and using the gym. I have had my gym membership for 3 months - first 2 months - I was good, kept it up - haven't been for the last month, so come 1st Jan I'll be in there early in the morning.
I'm about 6ft4, and weigh around 22st at the moment - my bmi is currently 37.3 and i know this is unhealthy. It doesn't help when people keep telling me I don't look that heavy, I don't need to lose weight - I do, and I'm beginning to notice changes in my health as well as my appearances. I'm beginning to get a sore chest occasionally, find it harder to bend down, out of breath, clothes not fitting(!), veins beginning to show signs of becoming varicose. I simply have to change my ways and I 'm hoping people on here can help with the determination bit. Need to get down to about 14 and a half stone to get down to a healthy bmi, so that's the long-term plan. Back to under 20 is the short term goal though! Hope everyone had a great xmas, and look forward to losing weight with all on here:-) Best of luck to all of you,
Cheers
Hello Steve, nice to have another fella around, you'll meet suggs, ajax etc in time I'm sure.
Once you get back into the habit of going to the gym it will help. I've been a member of gyms before and have paid a whole years membership and only attended the induction - how bad is that? My best attendance was when I planned it in my diary and if I didn't feel like it I would still go, promising myself that I only had to stay 20 minutes - once you get there you tend to stay for a full session anyway - but worked for me psychologically.
People used to tell me I didn't need to lose weight too, but you know yourself and you have to do what you know is right. My knees started to 'give out' on me and I knew I just had to do something - plus there were other work related reasons to lose weight - I wouldn't have been able to do a 'task' that was coming up if I had stayed as large as I was.
I think it is good to have short term goals, as you feel the success of each goal reached it should spur you on to reach your next goal.

I have been looking at the Cambridge diet. I know it is quite expensive but I know it really could be the kickstart I need.... If anyone has any experience with the Cambridge diet i would really appreciate it.

Hi Izzoh - good luck to you whatever you decide!
I have done sole sourcing, but lost my weight on Lighter Life and not the Cambridge Diet. I thought the counselling part of it would help me but the counsellor wasn't very good and was very disorganised. It does cost a lot of money!
Well - it is all down to you at the end. You will definitely lose weight but you have to keep it off. Once you get to the weight you want to be, you cannot go back to your old eating habits or you will put the weight back on (take it from me who lost 3st 2lbs on sole sourcing and has put 4st back on!).
I would say if you are going to do it, please stick to it and don't cheat at all. I found when I started cheating, that was it, I could not get back to it. However I did 10 weeks without a single morsel passing my lips and did really well, but once I fell off the wagon that was it.
Someone I know did it during the summer and lost 2st and she's managed to keep it off this far. She told me she tends to eat more protein now than carbs, and has started walking more (example school run) and as I say she has kept it off.
So - as I say - it will work, you will lose weight quickly on it, but keeping it off is the hard part. Good luckStart Date: 27/11/2010

Much better today - haven't touched any of the "junk" and I've been for a wonderful three hour walk with my son, we had a brilliant time out on the fields, common & woods! This time he was into finding the perfect walking stick and several got used and then discarded along the way!
It was such a gorgeous day and I hope it was the same for everyone on here. Nothing but sunshine and blue skies...!
Casper, I'm sorry about my ignorance! I'm guessing he's some sort of tv or movie person because those are the ones I generally have no clue aboutEnjoy your trip to New York!!!

Yeah i am worried about the cost of it. I am thinking of re-joinin gWeightwatchers, as £5 a week is better. But I am looking forward 2 my new start in January.
Thankyou for the advise! xx9 years and counting0 -
Izzoh - you have gone through such a lot this year - time to do something for you. I don't know anything about the Cambridge diet personally, but like Lighter Life, my impression is that it works in the short term but people do seem to regain the weight, and more, sadly. I like the sound of the natural clinic - that's the path I am taking (very slowly), and discovering a lot about myself along the way. I am also an advocate of exercise being the key, and Missy will be along soon to re-inforce that!!! ;o) If you are rolling your eyes about exercise - believe me I would have been 18 months ago - all I can say is I am a serious convert, had all the excuses before, but now see them for the stumbling blocks they were.......

Thankyou Lesley.. i am waiting to be sent a big questionnaire to come through for this natural clinic place, did you get one of those? It is ot give them an understanding of me! I hope I can get started soon. But yes I really want to do this for me. Thankyou for your advise!!! After what I have read from some of you Cambridge diet does not seem the best way to go. A bit like 2 step forwards and then 1 step back!
so I am going to start tomorrow buy writing out a food plan for the month of January and sticking to it.
Thanks all! :T9 years and counting0 -

No - I haven't been to natural clinic but have looked at and/or tried many holistic treatments/therapies. They are too many to mention, but NLP, hypnotherapy, kinesiology, food testing, complementary supplements, dealing with heavy metal toxicity are just a few to mention.
Some sound barmy, and are! But I think I have taken a little something from each of them, some more than others!
The questionnaire should be quite interesting for you too - some of the questions are quite soul searching and can be quite a good therapy in itself. Good luck!
Went for a fab walk today through some woods that are a nature reserve. We climbed the path to the top and appeared above the trees and had the most amazing view. It was so peaceful up there. The walk itself was only 2.5km but as it was a hike up and down it took nearly an hour - one happy tired dog later! I love this walking with the dog - we often used to talk about going walking, but never made it but now there is a big pair of brown eyes gazing at me which I just can't ignore! lol
Just been to my brothers for a boxing day do and my little niece Jessica was told to say thank you for her Christmas present, and said 'ho ho ho merry Christmas' instead - it was so funny!
Lesley xNO EXCUSES - THIS YEAR IT'S PERSONAL..........0 -
Hi all
I hope everyone's had a lovely Christmas. It seems ages since I was here, although I'm sure it's only a couple of days! We were out all day on Christmas Eve, catching up with people, and meeting up with a few friends for dinner. We had an early start yesterday - we're trying to combine the usual Christmas things with saying our goodbyes, so we got up early to go to MIL's, had a coffee and chat with her, then took her to BIL's for more coffee and chat before heading to my Mum's for dinner. She lives in a one-bedroom bungalow, which was bursting at the seams with 5 of us for dinner and 9 for tea!
I realised yesterday that my appetite has changed for the better - after turkey and all the trimmings, plus Christmas pud I couldn't have managed even one chocolate for the rest of the afternoon. We had tea at 7pm but I really wasn't that hungry so just nibbled on a couple of savoury bits. In the past I'd have started eating at breakfast and just carried on throughout the day!
Welcome to the newcomers - it's great to see such enthusiasm, so good luck to all of you. There's a great bunch on here, so get stuck in and you'll get as much support, laughter, ribbing etc as you need.Interfloo
Only 2 days to go now and we still have stuff to do and people to see, so we're going to have a busy weekend. Have a good one everyone.
