A New Year a New You!!

Welcome to the place where we encourage you not to save £'s but to lose Lb's instead :D

So you wanna lose weight? You've come to the right place! :D Need a chat, a shoulder, advice perhaps or even some downright silliness??

Pull up a chair and join in the chat, whatever plan you're following to lose weight, be it SW, WW, RC, or just plain old reducing what you eat and increasing the exercise, there'll be someone here that can help and advise, or offer moral support.

There are plenty of regulars here who follow all types of plan and will be willing and able to help you out or at least point you in the right direction.

During the course of the week, feel free to post your weekly loss, gain or no change, and see your results in a chart that's updated every Wednesday evening. To help us older folk quickly spot the losses, please post the loss as BOLD and Colourful as possible :) (Its helps those of us with bad eyes ;) )

Also you can take part in the 5lb monthly challenge - This is a fun mini motivational monthly challenge, in which the goal of losing 2lb per week, is spread out to 5lb per month. Next one has just about started so get your name down quick and post your name and start the new list. You could be Slimmer of the Week, or Slimmer of the Month! :j:j The chart is currently maintained by one of our delightful ladies... me :D

A few abbreviations:
STS ~ Stay The Same (No change in weight)
HHA ~ Half Hour Activity, 30 minutes of whatever activity you choose, as long as it gets you moving it's good for you!
HHSS ~ Half Hour Sofa Slumping :p
SOTW ~ Slimmer Of The Week
SOTM ~ Slimmer Of The Month

We have plenty of recipes to help you in the recipes thread (link below) and there are links to useful websites below. There are some friendly peoples 'Before and After' Pics on Lose Weight 18, 19 and 20 :)

So come and join us, we're a friendly bunch! There are even one or two gentlemen hiding amongst us! Well one of us is gentle ;)

Welcome to the new thread :)
I'll be easing up from the weightloss for the next week or so (not going mad thou) and going straight back into it in the New Year. I'm very close to my goal and the next challenge will be learning to maintain.

I hope you all have a fantastic Christmas, I will be gorging myself tomorrow on turkey, pheasent & duck, and I will not once think about the calories :) You've all worked so hard this last year and you deserve a day or two off - if I don't see everyone with a gain next Wednesday you'll be in trouble! ;)
Just remember to come back with all guns blazing :D

Merry Christmas & Happy New Year to you all. :snow_laug

  • Wonderful, new me, new thread!

Well after posting my tale-of-woe yesterday I had a really good day! I felt really free and empowered for the first time in a long while...I can't explain why???

Worked out calorie allowance and can have between 1100 (2lbs per week loss) or 2076 (maintainance). Will try and put a stop to snacking / eating when not hungry though rather than strictly sticking to calories.

    Bring on Day 2!!!
    Start Date: 27/11/2010
    Padding: Day 42
    Target £8000
    Amount: £562.23

Thanks Raph for the new thread.

Hi IF - you can do it!

The talk on the old thread about rubbish eating dogs reminded me of a dog we had when I was a kid. He was a nutter (large border collie but we think he must have had some rottweiller in him!) and used to eat anything. We woke up one morning to find that he had got into the cupboard under the sink and wolfed down a twin pack of loo bloo. The telltale signs were the empty pack, the bright blue stain on the fur on his face and chest, the waft of ocean freshness on his breath and the luminous turquiose deposits he left afterwards. Like I said - nutter!
    I would if I could but I can't so I won't!
  • Hi everyone, after losing my 33 odd lbs between last week in August & Xmas Eve, the target for 2009 - 16 lbs to start - feel have to be a bit careful nothing worse than losing weight and looking 10 years older.

Quite pleased with current dress and need to make those PD bras last a bit!!

I will be happy with another size off top and bottom (I say that now but when you get into the zone who knows)

Hope you all have happy Xmas .

  • Thanks a lot raph for the new thread. Feels good actually to have a fresh thread to face the New Year. I think Nial comes along at some point and locks the old one.
Well done London for losing that extra bit. Sounds good that you know you don't want to lose too much.
As for roses chocolates: the only ones worth eating are the orange and strawberry ones:rotfl: .Hoping OH parents don't give us another huge tin this year.
Hoping to be meeting up with bails later this afternoon. Do you want me to take my camera along lesley:rotfl: .
Interfloo - you've made a good start. I think the best promise you can make yourself now is that you will fall off the wagon at some point and when you do, you won't then write off the whole week as spoilt, but get straight back on again. Keep posting here whatever happens.
Got to go and make my first ever trifle for family tomorrow and wrap pressies.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once

Thank you for the new thread Raphael! :D

So glad you're feeling a bit more positive IF! It must be our influence ;)

Just a quick note on the calorie allowance - it isn't recommended to consume fewer calories than your BMR. Please be careful about this, especially if you are exercising as well. If you restrict your calorie intake too much (and/or overexercise for the amount you're eating), you'll risk losing muscle and other "good" stuff along with the body fat - and in exteme cases you could sabotage your BMR, which will make you need to put much more effort in to get the same results.

It's the lean tissue that keeps the calories burning, so keeping hold of as much as you can will set you up for more efficient weight loss/maintain in the future :D 1200 cals/day has been quoted as an absolute minimum for females (even this is very low and could hinder your weight loss rather than help it). To ensure you are losing mostly fat, and not slowing the metabolism, reducing your maintenance calorie intake by 10-20% is recommended.

I've summarised this from my various reading on the subject and personal experience - sorry if it's stuff that's been said over and over again - but IMO it's well worth looking into and doing some research on fat loss strategies (as opposed to weight loss strategies) before setting the calorie levels :)

Good luck with your target for 2009 London! The target setting does need to be flexible I think :) For me it's actually less about how I look and more about how I feel. The trade off of looking a bit older (which I probably do ), but feeling 10 or even 20 years younger is a good one for me :p

BB - no good taking your camera now, we wanted the pictures when it happened - right Lesley?! :p Say hi to Bails for me, hope you have a lovely meet up later :D

    FFM - yummy, cashews :rotfl:

I'm currently around *coughs* 9 stone (I don't own scales and need to weight myself after christmas to get the exact weight) but my ideal is 8 so would like to get down to that.

Also want to improve my fitness, as although I have low blood pressure I'm very unfit! Im going to be having some swimming lessons as my technique is pretty bad. :o
