    Hi guys.

Snowing like mad here - everyone is panicking and leaving early and the kids were all sent home from school.

Today Im still a bit down from last night but I have stayed on the plan (have already had 17 syns!!! but thats ok.....).

I need to search through these threads and make some menu plans and buy the stuff in and stick to it, half of my problem is getting home and finding there is nothing in to cook and just bunging another jacket potato in or having pasta in sauce again and I am starting to get fed up of it.

    Must get organised.

How many Syns can you carry over each day

    Hi

It does not really work like that - you are allowed between 5-15 per day and you use them how you like, I know many chose to stick to 10.
Perhaps if you think of it as 70 per week (between weigh in's).

It is recommended that you try to have some every day (so that you do not deprive yourself), but i know people who only have 2 or 3 per day and save the rest up for the weekend for a drink or a meal out.

Our consultant does not recommend this but it works for some people.

It is a matter or trial and error, personally I have about 10-15 per day, sometimes i have none for two days in a row and 30 one day and it seems to work out ok.

For me I have better losses the more syns I have some weeks had 15 per day and had good loss other weeks had 5-10 per day and had a rubbish loss.

saut!d jerusalem artichokes with garlic and bay leaves

Jerusalem artichokes are sweet and almost garlicky and mushroomy and gorgeous. Although called artichokes they’re actually tubers – like rough and ready potatoes. You can scrub and roast them whole like mini jacket potatoes and split them open, drizzled with a little chilli oil. You can even use them in a salad with smoky bacon. A Jerusalem artichoke’s best friends are sage, thyme, butter, bacon, bay, cream, breadcrumbs, cheese and anything smoked.

To serve 4, you will need 600g/1lb 6oz of Jerusalem artichokes. Peel them, then cut them into chunks. Place them in an oiled frying pan and fry on a medium heat until golden on both sides, then add a few bay leaves, 2 cloves of garlic, finely sliced, a splash of white wine vinegar, some salt and pepper, and place a lid on top. After about 20 to 25 minutes they will have softened up nicely and you can remove the lid and the bay leaves. Continue cooking for a couple of minutes to crisp the artichoke slices up one last time, then serve straight away. Personally, I think they go well with both meat and fish and are particularly good in a plate of antipasti, or in soups or warm salads.

As a rule you don't. If you're having a big night out then you set a higher syn target for that day (any amount) but stay within it. The days before and the days after you should still have 5 - 15.

I went to the gym today. Ran 5.4km in 41mins.
Couldn't resist the scales though. I have put on 2lbs :eek:
I am very much hoping this is down to three reasons
    1) The scales were at a different gym to the ones I usually use (also in a sports facility, so they are good ones)
    2) I had just drunk a whole bottle of water, then weighed myself
    3) I was in gym clobber.

I think I will still weigh myself tomorrow on the other gym scales, wearing what I normally weigh in (light pair of tracksuit bottoms) but I am going to be so upset if I have gained.
  • Flat eric, just a little additional info regarding Jerusalem Artichokes, they can make you gassy, so if you feel bloated post eating them do not be suprised. Personally I got severe stomach ache and wind when I tried them and admit this has pretty much put me off the things, however others seem to have some nice ideas regarding their uses.

  • I have been at my slimming world target weight (ish) for the past year after losing four stone. I am now four pounds above my target and am having to pay for classes each week. I am not bothered about being over apart from having to pay.. Does anyone know if I can ask for my target to be increased by a couple of pounds so that I can still go to the classes and keep my weight in check for free?

Not possible I'm afraid. Your target has to change by at least 7lbs.
I let my mind wander and it never came back!
