I can't see where WE confirmed it was free as it's a pasta Mug Shot and AFAIK the only pasta one thats free is Tomato. It's not yet on the website so no answer there. (but if consultant thinks its a new free one then she must know!) Me confused too!

I'm sorry I can't remember and can't be bothered to sift through the thread lookign for what has already been posted about this, but my consultant told me that the 1% fat ones were free, the 2 or 3% ones had syns. Thsi equalled to all the noodle ones being free but the pasta ones having some syns, with the exception of tomato which was free. So AFAIK check the % fat in it: if its 1% it'll prob be free, if not it's likely to be 2-3 syns :j

I am also spending loads of £££ on food which is not very MSE, but its becuase I'm enjoying EE instead of all green which I used to do. Part of me thinks I should let myself spend spend spend on food as long as it keeps me interested in SW, part of me knows at some point I'll probably have a month where I need to cut back and food bills would be the obvious choice. I mean, I currenty spend £35 maybe £40 for food just for myself! I used to budget £25, and usually came in at £15 or £20!!

Thanks for posting this. I only went "back to class" last week after 3 months away and it's first WI tonight. I'm really struggling with the food budget and this always happens when we're on plan (OH is at class with me), so I'm reading everyone's menu plans for idea. I plan our meals out, but I'm still finding it really tough and with both of us paying fees, we need to keep a tight control on the budget.
Love MSE, Las Vegas and chocolate!

Nic2075- a great idea cooking a few jackets for later, have you tried slicing them and frying in fry light (like scollops) saves ages waiting for sw chips and a nice change imo

Thanks katie I might try that, I get very impatient waiting for my chips lol. I usually slice them rather than chip them, they seem to cook more evenly and quicker than chips. I dont cut them thin enough to be crisps or anything, just about 5mm thick. I also love them later at ngiht, sprinkled with chilli flakes, with a dollop of Fromage frais.YUM

My organic veg box has just turned up and alas no oranges. (the whole point of the order in the first place!) Emergency trip to the supermarket beckons.

Also Tesco didnt have my tofu so will be having just the chicken as my HEB instead. Have also been supplied with baby corn and sugar snap peas instead of mange tout

nevermind, they had my mullerlights (choc and vanilla) and my alpen lights (a HEB option later in the week).

Have already had my "first lunch" (low fat batchelors super noodles)

second lunch cooking - Jacket spuds and cottage cheese :D

Finally I ordered some jerusalem artichokes with my organic order but I have no idea what to do with them? HELP

Wish I had some supernoodles! I really fancy the texture right now. Ah well jacket potato it is. Got work for an hour, then gotta go to the gym, run 5k in under 43mins and then come back and eat some pasta. Bought some giaaaant potatoes today so that I can have chunky chips tomorrow!
  • The only thing I ever did with jerusalem artichokes was make soup, but apparently they make nice chips...

    EAT THEM!!!!:rotfl:

Sorry...that was no help, I know! I actually have no idea whatsoever as to what you do with them but I've just asked my OH and he said you peel the outside off and eat the hearts??? Aparently they are really nice and you can mash them and all sorts. Let us know what they are like and what you did to them as I would be really interested as i've never had them before.
    Starting weight 14 stone 13 1/2lb
    :jTarget weight 10 stone:j

Total weight loss to date 1 1/2lb
  • It appears that maintainance is going to take some discussion in our house.... OH (who has been following SW with me and has lost 1.5 stone and has been a superstar throughout the last 10 months) seems to think the diet is 'over' and unlimited cake and alcohol can freely enter the house again  It is clear that our opinions of the word 'occasional' differ rather drastically :rotfl: I shall have to ensure that all our meals continue to be totally :A so that I can indulge him some treats every now and again  as I do the majority of the cooking, and all of the food shopping, this should be managable :o

anyway, on that note, today is a green day...

B 0% greek yog with blueberries and strawberries, tea (milk HA)

L butternut squash soup (free) and a bread roll (HB), rasp (muller and jelly) mousse (1/5 syn!!!!! so will count 0.5 syn :D)

D cous cous and vegetable tagine (from new 'best ever' book) - will add 1 tbsp pinenuts (HB) to the cous cous with a big tomao and cucumber salad etc..

only 0.5 syns used, so will have G&T and/or wine tonight...

He is refering to artichokes - a tall, flower like perrenial plant where you eat the blades and the hearts...

jerusalem artichokes are more like small knobbly potatoes - they grow underground. They can be a whotsit to peel (there are two varieties available, the only difference being how knobbly they are). Soup is the traditional dish, but you can do anything you would do with a potato.... mash, gratin, chips etc etc...
