Evening all, my onion soup for dinner tonight was a disaster! lol it wasnt so much a soup but more like a bowl of stewed onions! oh well at least I tried and it hasnt gone to waste, I've chucked the left overs in with a bowl of couscous for lunch tomorrow.
Sorry to hear about your Nan Jo, I can sympathise as I lost my Nan 6 years ago this month. They have the internet on computers now?! - Homer Simpson

I have had 2 rotten days - My lovely Nan died & after crying most of yesterday i Started stuffing my face with almost anything in sight.
It was not unexpected but it did come quicker than anticiapated. Its only 3 1/2 months since we buried grandad.
This has hit me much harder. I am like her in looks & temprament (but not patience- maybe that comes with age)
I just can't imagine my life without her in it.
I'm trying to look at the positives at least she is with grandad & not suffering any more.
Jo
(((hugs))) Jo. I really do believe she will be with her husband now and so much happier for that. You will miss her, but she will be with every time you look for her.
Oh and as for becoming more patient with age - it hasn't worked for me, I've become one of the original grumpy old womenI let my mind wander and it never came back!0 -
Hello all,
Joey, I am sorry about your Nan, i've been through that, we all have, and it's useless saying "it gets easier" but it does though it may take ages. If you need to comfort eat I'd say do it for a litle while but think of your Nan and how proud she would be to see you getting healthier, big big hugs for you. Your Nan will never stop loving you remember.
re carbonara, for years I made carbonara following an old Italian recipe that DIDN'T INCLUDE CREAM. Try this. Prepare your pasta, remember squiggly pastas hold any sauce better than spaghetti does. Squirt a bit of olive oil or frylight and keep warm. In a Healthy Extra B of olive oil (well a splosh anyway) fry some chopped garlic and mushroom and fatfree bacon or ham, it only takes a minute in the microwave, I'm not an expert on regular cooking. While that's cooking quickly and lightly beat an egg and grate or shave some parmesan (HEA). It's important that the pasta and the garlic/mushroom/bacon mix is really hot. Tip the garlic/mushroom/bacon into the pasta, add the beaten egg and stir it quickly about. Top with parmesan and EAT.
If you are pregnant or old you might want to reheat everything to slightly cook the egg but the heat should cook it as soon as you mix it. No cream, no quark, no anything. Divine.
Liz, I have a great onion soup recipe that I'll look up for you. Sory a bit slow tonight as I have spent my week's syns on wine and scratchings at the pub!:jThat's 2 stone 9 lbs gone forever:j
thank you Slimming World!

French Microwave Cookery - Onion soup with melted cheese
Oooops it calls for half a pound of butter, ignore that.
4 lar onions peeled and thinly slices
quarter teaspoon of sugar
(1 tablespoon of flour - I don't think I've ever used this, or the butter!)
4 cups beef stock (eg marmite or bovril)
quarter cup madeira or dry vermouth (again, not vital, or syn it)
ground pepper
slices thin dry french
slices of french bread
gruyere or swiss cheese, grated.
Cook sliced onions on high in frylight or sprayed olive oil with sugar until tender. (add flour now if using). Add stock, madeira and pepper , re-cover and cook for 10 - 12 mins or until bubbling, stirring occasionally.
Divide soup between six bowls, place a slice of bread on each and sprinkle each with cheese. Place bowls in MW oven and cook until cheese melts.
Dividing the cup of vermouth between six makes the syns negligible I think and it's very good.:jThat's 2 stone 9 lbs gone forever:j

That onion recipe sounds great, I cant help thinking I didnt use enough stock as I sliced and cooked 3 large onions but by the time I had finished making the "soup" it barely filled two bowls and we had to top them up with extra bread!
Next time I'll get OH to make it, he's better at making soup than I am!They have the internet on computers now?! - Homer Simpson

OH is definitely guinea pig tonight - as well as the 'fattened up' carbonara sauce he is getting, I am going to use some homemade pasta I did earlier. I am teaching making tagliatelle tomorrow night and wanted to try the recipe, but as it is oil and flour based, it isn't free, so he gets it!

Quick question qbout Extra Easy: on the website's sample menu it says you can have as much mullerlight yogurt as you want. Is it ok to have fat free plain yogurt instead?

Does anyone know good places to eat out? I have said to my friends I'd rather not go to Pizza Express and they said it's ok we can go somewhere else, but obviously a lot of the onus now rests on me to suggest a good place I'm not going to want to back out on.
Wetherspoons is out, I had a horrible meal there and don't really want to go again.I'm just about to rejoin Slimming World.

I've not been any better today.
Not one but two cheese twists & a choc eclair for lunch.
I will try & draw a line under it and be better tomorrow, she wouldn't be impressed she was always encouraging me to "Be Good"
