I opened a cash ISA in my local Natwest branch on the 19th December, handing over my cheque and Icesave certificate. My ISA account now exists, but has no money it, and my cheque still hasn't been cashed. I have £39K sitting in my current account earning no interest while I'm waiting for Natwest to pull its thumb out of its jacksy and put my cheque through clearing. I am not a happy bunny and will be going back to the branch to complain.

This goes on and on, doesn't it?

I went into my local Natwest branch 17 Dec (ISA previously opened in expectation of Icesave proceeds) and handed them a cheque plus Certificate). Questioned closely as I had no wish to lose further interest and add to the Icesave nightmare, Customer Services assured me my cheque would clear quickly and interest payable from date of me handing it to them. They took a copy of the Reinstatement Cert, all they required.

12 days later I revisited local branch to tell them that my £19K+ ISA transfer cash was still in a non-interest bearing Current Account. Customer Services now advised that details had first to be cleared with their Tax dept to ensure it qualified for tax-free status, and told me I would get a call "within 48 hours".

    Still waiting....................

Natwest are a joke. Your FSCS certificate is proof of the tax free status of your money. What did they think you did? Go to all the bother of forging it?

They really are a !!!! poor excuse for a bank, and I already know this after only ever having been in a Natwest branch twice in my life!

I'm giving them until close of business on Monday to cash the cheque or I'll cancel it, close the account, and go elsewhere. And I shall be writing to Natwest informing them that I'll want 2 weeks interest at 4.23% (£64) on the full amount stated on my cheque.

Same situation as the OP. Applied for a Natwest ISA just before Icesave went bust and got the letter of invitation through the post from Natwest Central Tax Office.

Tax Office cashed my cheque on Christmas Eve after 7 working days. Not bad considering they must be very busy at the moment. Hope you all get sorted out very soon.

Reading this am getting nervous as just opened an ISA with Natwest to transfer ICESAVE funds. I opened the account on the phone on 18th Dec & was told I would get the bonus interest amount (does anyone have the rates by the way as should have made a note of it).

They then sent me the forms to sign, I decided to take these into local branch with certificate and cheque (as didnt want to lose these in the post). It was 31st Dec by the time I took the forms in because of the xmas break- after a short break I was greeted by a young chap with Jeans and Jumper but no badge...I was concerned that he actually worked there was had no badge or anything...he said it was no uniform day..was a bit put out about this as he could have been anyone, but confirmed with other staff before talking to him.

Anyway, gave him the signed forms and he simply stamped them and gave me a copy...said he would send off to head office. I tried to give him the Certificate and Cheque but he said I had to wait for the account to be opened first...which means I will probably have to go back in there I guess...what a pain..

Am losing confidence in Natwest by the minute, I remember why I stopped banking with them about 15 years ago now..

    after many "chasing" 'phone calls

. . . . . 30.12.08 NatWest ring me at about 3pm and say they have not reeived the
above and I must submit them again

. . . . . 31.12.08 check account and find money has been deposited in account - but

If your cheque still hasn't cleared, try and take all the money out of your ISA. If you can withdraw from the account, cancel the cheque and emigrate. :D

Hi guys, I am in the same situation as most of us here. Customer services is no use. Does anyone know how we can get Martin's attention, maybe he can get an answer from the bank cause we sure as hell cant get anything from them.

My husband is in the same position and is rapidly loosing his cool! He was instructed in writing that once the certificates were to hand to post them along with the cheque in the SAE to an address in Manchester. This was done on the 19th December. His ISA account was already opened so it should have been pretty straightforward. Wrong. Last Tuesday someone called TJ was ringing him back - of course still waiting. This morning someone has directed him to his local branch (3 miles away) Complete and utter waste of time. She looked at him as though he was from outer space!!!! Her only suggestion is the cheque and certificates are lost and to apply to FSA for new ones. Completely not bothered, couldn't care a less, not interested. As someone else said, how do they stay in business. Oh yes and the email request for duplicate certificates has just been returned as undelivered!!!!!! Next move anyone? Sally

went into my branch today as they sent me a standard letter saying we are investigating you complaint and as we are still collecting info will contact you within the next 2 weeks.. not a happy bunny. investigating what? they know what they have done. dont like having a go a ppl but ive given them enough rope already. so the counter assistant got it after cueing up for ages as normal. anyway they showed my the screen and the process the account is going through so something is being done! supposedly it should have been done by today but it wasnt hence the letter and it says on the comp screen to check from tom onwards. i said ill be in everyday this week to check up. they claim theres a back log because of all the ice save transfers. but frankly its prob just b.S as half of their staff dont even know who icesave are.
