Well Casualty which was missed last night has now been watched on BBC i player - never heard of this before, and have discovered that you can watch programmes from the last 7 days, so may watch the Wallace & Gromit Christmas special tonight when OH is out at his gun club. Off to my M&D's again tonight to use up the last of the food, so no cooking for me tonight.

I'm still not dressed! Drinking a cup of tea now, and then I plan to go to the gym as I need to wash my hair there again.

Froddington send me a text and let me know when you're free, and we can arrange that shopping trip. Well done for all of your flying today btw.
Enjoy the little things, for one day you may look back and realize they were the big things.

    Afternoon all :hello:

Been busy this morning trying to reclaim my livingroom from the Christmas chaos. Just reserved some bits from Argos to help after my dad said he'd give me a lift home :D I'll jump the bus out to Speke and wander around for a bit then ring my dad to come pick me up. Sometimes I miss having a car :o Got some bargains yesterday in the sales which I'm putting away for DD's birthday, and some cards & stuff for next year from Woolies (the store I went to yesterday had 80% off the reduced prices as it was their last day :D:money::money: But not happy to see the stores closing though  ).

Best shift myself though as I've only just noticed the time!

Johanne she's wonderful, what a lovely dress too (not having a girl I always threatened DP that I was going to dress the boys in frocks!)

Dad turned up I was still in my PJs, he'd just come over to see the kids as they had their presents off him last week but he's one of the only relatives that does come over just to see them. My neice came with him too, asked if she could come to see me :D she's nearly 11 but I still get my cuddles!

Dad said I should have gone to wollies as they were selling everything (inc tills, shelves, anything) for 10p in the local store, like I said I'd rather stay home and not spend anything than be crammed in a shop full of vultures! Oh and Dad is determined to crack the no chocolate day by bringing me a ferrero collection tray, have put them in the kitchen out of the way! Just ordered the ebay items I wanted for the boys birthdays, nintendo DS cases (and stylus pens I needed to pay for)

Need to empty WM and DW in a mo, see if I can get pulled round a bit. Oh no DS2 wants to get the moon sand out, why did I buy him that?

Am going to ask my question here as you are all so supportive. Am thinking of getting a slow cooker but am worried about whether I would use it enough. Food would always have to cook for at least 10hrs and sometimes up to 12 hrs because of my working day. I am fussy about meat [was a vegetarian for 15yrs] and can't eat any meat that requires a lot of chewing or eating off the bone. However I thought maybe it would stop me cooking instant type meals such as potato wedges and chicken grills and would also perhaps help with the weight loss I need to do in the New year. So in all your experiences should I get one?
We don't need to do it perfectly - good enough is exactly that GOOD ENOUGH.

vivw if you like soft meat which doesn't need a lot of chewing, slow cooked meats would be perfect IMO. It's an ideal way of cooking something with minimum effort, especially useful if I am out all day I throw it in on the morning, switch on and there is yummy hm food ready when I get in. I don't use mine really often but what I did buy it for (it's a massive 6.5l MR one) is batch cooking. When I make a stew, casserole, chilli or bol sauce etc I make loads, freezing portions for future meals, this is where it's even more worth it for me. If I didn't have such a big SC I'd likely use it more often. If you do get one I think I have an e book with a few hundred recipes in.

  • vivw i can totally agree with lil_me - it makes meat so tender it just melts - I too use mine for batch cooking - not sure what size mine is - the one thing I found is that they dont come with a lot of recipes and it can be hard to find books - and it is so cheap to use. Even me that is useless in the kitchen has never had a disaster!!!!

  • Afternoon, everyone

Johanne -gorgeous picture. Your daughter is beautiful.

Vivw - I love my slow cooker, although I don't use it daily. With regard to "chewy" meat, OH has no teeth due to bone problem, so needs his meat really tender, and stews etc in the slow cooker are perfect. Also, as you said, it stops you doing the "easy cook" option. If you can get things ready the night before and leave in the fridge, or in the morning before work, it's great to come home knowing all you need to do is set the table and dish up!

    Flying today:

Bathroom and shower room cleaned thoroughly.
    Kitchen cleaned thoroughly
    Upstairs vacuumed
    Staircase vacuumed.

Still need to wash bathroom, shower room and kitchen floors and vacuum downstairs.

Breakfast - Croissants, yogurt and honey (no chocolate)

I'm about to have lunch, which is going to be salad etc.

Not certain about dinner yet. Maybe chickpea and potato curry, or Glamorgan sausages?

Afternoon all. Feeling slightly better now so have hoovered downstairs and S&S loos and sinks.

Soappie - well done on finding the dough hook and I'm impressed you are going to the dump. I've just found my misplaced bank card (was not worried the account doesn't have a penny in it but I need the number for logging on to another account)

Johanne I'm pleased you and pumpkin had a great time and that OH could be there to share it with you. Wishing you all happiness for the coming year.

I am working on a new flying plan for the coming year (not again I hear you oldies shout). My aim is to concentrate on declutting and cleansing one room a week for 8 weeks. I will do regular flying of other rooms on top but feel it is time again for a mass declutter and if I attempt to do it all in one go I get disheartened too quickly. I shall start next week

    Week 1
Bathroom and downstairs loo. Both have a cupboard to sort in and no decorations so no excuse there.
    Week 2
Master bedroom including clothes and under bed, on top of wardrobe
    Week 3
Hall, stairs landing including hall cupboard and airing cupboard

That will mean all of upstairs will be done by the end of the month as I did the kids rooms before Christmas.

I shall then move on to downstairs in February (excluding half term when we are away) so by spring the house will be beautiful and I'll be able to spend loads of time gardening/sowing seeds/topping up my Vit D levels.

Dusty, my card wasn't with it by any chance was it? I think it's ran away somewhere at the thought of the sales, but I still have my CC there to use.....It'll be in a coat somewhere or something I think, maybe in my car (which DP is using today) I might join you on the decluttering mission, but I am wondering if I will need more than a week for some of the rooms, suppose at least a weeks better than nothing. Bathroom start point will allow me additional time in my room if I get it finished I suppose....

Oh thinking of my car, I just spotted 4 bags of stuff next to the door, looks like DP emptied my car for me......wonder what is in there.

Right, kids had cereals and bagels for late breakfast, suppose should make them lunch really. They aren't impressed having a day off chocolate/treats :rotfl: Then will convince DS2 that he wants to play with lego not moon sand because DPs keyboards out on the table and I am not putting it away for him.

Oh I just added my GC up, loook!!!! £60.62 UNDER budget wohoooooo!!!! That'll be thanks to the use up months! Strange that it is £289 something again, think I will do £280 as next months target to push myself a bit!
