I love Xmas Eve, it's always so exciting!!!
We normally visit hubby's family and swap pressies with them (we always spend Xmas day alone with the kids cos we prefer it), and pick up the girls' pressies to bring back home.
Then we have a buffet tea at home with lots of little nibbles (family tradition), before going to our village church for the family Carol Service.
Then when we get home, we lay out the bits for Santa, sprinkle the reindeer food outside, and the girls put on their new Xmas PJ's.
I've changed things a bit this year because I've done an Xmas box each for the girls, so they'll have that to open after church instead.0 -
On Christmas eve its my d/s's 12th birthday :bdaycake: so we will be having a very special day as we usually do. We are going to the pictures in the afternoon with family and friends and afterwards its onto a local italian restaurant for our tea yum yum. We always try to make his birthday special and never ever buy joint birthday/christmas pressies. Im lucky because i have another room down stairs that gets decorated out with birthday banners posters etc. Most of his aunts and uncles join in with whatever we are doing so they have to be organised and have a lovely chilled out day. I really dont know what we will do when its comes to his 18th birthday I dont think pictures and the local restaurant will do on that day. :rotfl:0

Me and little man spend Christmas at my parents house, and my Dad comes to pick us up on Christmas Eve. I will spend the morning baking until Dad gets here, then when we get to their house my little one and his cousin do something crafty (this year they are making crackers) .. The little ones always have a bath at around 7, then new pj's (the same used to happen when i was little too lol) then bed. When little ones are in bed, we (my mum, dad, sister, brother in law and myself) just relax and watch a movie or something like that.
My little one and my neice have the same Christmas Eve that me and my sister used to have as children lol
I really can't wait .. I'm constantly giddy and have not been able to sleep properly for over a week!!!! lol xxx0 -
I don't think Christmas has to be religion based, considering Dec 25th is a purely symbolic date for Jesus's birth. The actual Christmas festivities have been taken from *other* (not Christian) religions over time. The Christian church didn't actually have 'Christmas' or anything similar when they started.
I think the season is all about goodwill, thinking of (and helping) those less fortunate and gathering with loved ones. If people also choose to celebrate the birth of Jesus, that's great .... but if not, there's nothing wrong with that either. Perhaps they attend church more often in September (which is when Jesus is widely believed to have been born)? You never know.
I'm reminded of the poem 'Diary of a church mouse'.

Wow - I didn't think it was possible to feel any more festive but these Christmas Eve posts have made me go into Christmas overdrive! I love all the ideas and am going to rush out tomorrow to get a Christmas Eve hamper together ( a bit last minute I know). My plan is to have it ready for my dd and ds on Christmas Eve morning as we're off to family in the afternoon.

No kids of my own but I'm adopted auntie to a few!
On Christmas Eve ( weather permitting) we dress the ponies up in tinsel and reindeer ears, sometimes bells too:eek: and about 10 of us pootle out on a very slow ride escorting little kids on fat ponies and dogs round a local bridleway.....very content tired kids at the end and worn out dogs and then we retire for a long leisurely lunch before we return to bed down the horses that evening with extra carrots to make up for the "humiliation" they had to suffer:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: earlier in the day0 -

We usually go to the cinema with our friends and their kids, but this year we're not! (My 8yo daughter seems to have some sort of panic attack each time we go to the cinema and gets fidgity/loosens trouser button/ generally keeps asking when we're leaving:rolleyes: and says she feels unwell, so we've decided to give up on that one!)
I'm booked in at Blood donors at 9.30, then we're coming home to watch Elf on DVD with various adults and kids (think about 11 of us:rotfl: ) make a load of popcorn and get some snacky bits in.
Then in the afternoon we're all walking into town to go to the Christingle service and soak up the atmosphere, then back home to wait for Grandma and Grandad to visit.
...........and i can't wait!!0 -
