Hiya
I make a lof of my own curry sauces from scratch, using onions, garlic etc, etc....
I normally end up with enough to fill about 8 / 10 bags and I just use the standard zip-top ones from Tescos. Can't remember how much they are but the come in 25s and last me ages.
For more bulky foods, I just use old vitalite dishes or any others I've collected / bought - usually tupperwear...
Hope this helps a little...Dogs have owners, CATS have STAFF...0 -
I do the same as wishingonastar. I have soup and chickpea curry frozen like that, at the moment.0

Cheap versions of the original Ziplock bags cost about £1 for 30 in cheaper household shops - like Poundland and What!
For very liquid foods you will need to have space in the freezer to stand the ziploc bag in a tupperware or substitute until it is frozen - then once solid, you can fill odd nooks and crannies with ziploc bags of food.
I like the Pyrex oblong glass dishes that you can get for £3-5 in supermarkets and kitchen shops. They come with a plastic lid for use in the fridge or freezer, and stack well.0 -
When I put things in sealable freezer bags, I seal just to the edge, suck as much air out as I can, then quickly finish the seal!! Also any shop bought packaging is taken off. That pesky packaging takes up far too much space, I just rip the label off and pop it in the freezer bag!!Sig ah Sig Ahhh0

In the days when I had take-aways all the time (oh they were the days!!!) I saved all the tubs as they were plastic with lids. I now use these for all my freezing. They are just right for one portion and stack nicely in the freezer. I find bags very messy when defrosting/opening especially for soups/sauces/curries etc. i try to avoid freezer bags at all costs! Each to there own I guess0

Was sent a voucher from Lakeland for their Grab a bag thingy and they have been excellent for freezing soups, sauces, gravy etc etc. They are quite pricey but as they were free..couldnt say no..LOL. Voucher was for me and a friend so OH & I got a set each, normally over £5 each.

Thanks everyone for the replies. I've managed to get some ziplock bags from poundland, I got the extra strong ones, so hopefully this will help.
Annie c, pyrex dishes sound like a good idea, this way things can got straight in the oven, will maybe get one a week when I go shopping.
looneyleo, I had a few of the takeaway dishes, but they tend to crack after a while, especially if your as clumsy as me and keep dropping everything :rotfl:

The rectangular ones are pictured here - there are 3 sizes (first size is 'ready meal' sized, second is twice bigger, third size is 4 times bigger and they cost £2.99, £3.99 and £4.99 each. They fit really well in the freezer aand the lids fit really, really tightly, so no spills. I've had mine years now but you can still get them in Morrisons and Tesco. NB This is a US site - the ones I have seen in the UK have white plastic lids instead of blue.0 -
Hi Bulchy, I tend to use old margarine tubs. They stack up beautifully and can be used time and time again. A sticky label is all it takes to complete my ready meals homemade style:D:j0

i use the "takeaway" style lidded containers ,I buy them in wilkos
i prefer them to using bags as they go straight from freezer to microwave for reheating0
