I have been freezing one portion servings of things like chilli, bolognaise sauce etc into those plastic 'take away' containers you get from poundland. 10 for a pound. You can reuse them which is good - less waste. DS can put them straight into the microwave - which means that he will use them and they stack really well in the freezer. They have replaced the ready meals that he used to like to have ready for when he 'finally' turned up to eat. I label them using permanent marker on the lids and know that when I have say 4/5 chilli lids it is time to make another batch.
I have been collecting pyrex dishes from charity shops and am using them to put family sized dishes into the freezer that I can put into the oven. As they don't cost too much I have a good collection and can afford to have them in the freezer and not in my cupboards IYSWIMTrue wealth lies in contentment - not cash. Dollydaydream 20060 -
Any old containers such as marg tubs, takeaway plastic tubs, foil tubs or foil that had a cheesecake in it even are going to be cheaper than buying new bags. (Just remember not to freeze tomatoes in foil containers)
I like things that are cheaper AND better for the environment! :-)0 -

The rectangular ones are pictured here - there are 3 sizes (first size is 'ready meal' sized, second is twice bigger, third size is 4 times bigger and they cost £2.99, £3.99 and £4.99 each. They fit really well in the freezer aand the lids fit really, really tightly, so no spills. I've had mine years now but you can still get them in Morrisons and Tesco. NB This is a US site - the ones I have seen in the UK have white plastic lids instead of blue.
Yep - this is what I use as well, got mine from Woolworths - they're excellent if you're freezing a shepherds pie etc because you can use them straight from the freezer to the oven (although not the lid)
Squares knitted for my throw ~ 90 (yes!!! I have finally finished it :rotfl: )Squares made for my patchwork quilt ~ 80 (only the "actual" quilting to do now :rotfl:)0 -

Only if it truly is Pyrex!
From pyrexware.com:-
• PYREX® glassware products can go directly from refrigerator or freezer to a microwave, convection, or preheated conventional oven. A small amount of liquid should be added to the ovenware vessel prior to baking foods that release liquids while cooking.working on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?0 -
We get through quite a few freezer bags, as we tend to make extra portions of our meal and then freeze the leftovers for later, or make a huge pot of stew on a Sunday and freeze it all so we always have a "ready meal" for when we are busy during the week.
However, I hate buying them and just throwing them away afterwards! What do OldStylers use to freeze leftovers instead of freezer bags?0 -

I use old (clean!) margarine tubs and yogurt/cream pots that come with lids.0 -
thanks bizzylizzy - we only have small tubs of marg because we don't use it very much so not sure our meals would fit :rolleyes:0

Hi overlykeensaver,
This older thread should give you some ideas:
Freezer containers
I'll merge your thread with it later as it helps to keep all the suggestions together.

Have a look in one of the "pound" style shops for a set of tupperware style plastic containers. They usually come in packs of 20-30 various styles. We use those as you can was and reuse them - even if you put something in that stains the plastic, you can still reuse it for the same food (e.g. Bolognase sauce)- = I also recognise the Robins and beep for them = -0
