Freezer containers (merged threads)

I've really got into the swing of meal planning and am now feeling ready to give my life a bit more ease by preparing bigger batches and freezing them. Only issue is when I moved i lost most of my containers... so any thoughts on best products? Those that need to stand up to freezing and hopefully stack neatly rather than some square some round etc
Has anyone an opinion on tesco's own that start at 31p?
Help greatfully recieved

Tesco's 31p containers? are those the little round value ones? if so, I use them to store my spices & use the bigger ones in the range for various other culinary purposes & they're absolutely fine
since buying them I've noticed Asda do a similar range which I last time I looked were a little cheaper
also Poundland & the like do cheap containers, but I've found on the ones that I've bought that the lids don't fit so well
so my vote's for Tesco/Asda cheapies0 -
Sainsburys have a deal ona pack of containers, were £9.99 down to £4.99 if that's any help. Not sure if that's a national reduction as I am In NI but it might be worth a look in your local store??0

This is how i make max use of my freezer space:
Line your container ( I use rectangular ice-cream boxes) with clingfilm...make sure that you cover all the inside surfaces plus a good bit over flowing at the edges. Then carefully place your food inside the box and then wrap the excess clingfilm over the top of the food, to ensure it's all covered.
Then freeze.
Once frozen, remove from ice cream box ( or whatever you're using), but leave clingfilm on. Place your frozen block of food in a freezer bag and label clearly.
These frozen blocks then can be stacked really well in your freezer, and, if you're clever with you're labelling, then you'll be able to take out what you want more easily.
Your ice cream carton is then ready for your next batch of freezing!!
good luck0 -
we buy the zip-lock freezer bags.
place whatever you want to freeze in the bag and on a baking tray put it in freezer, when frozen remove the baking tray.this leaves you with nice flat little bags and lets you put so much more in your freezer......its literally doubled the amount we can get in.
p.s......you dont have to use the baking tray,we do this so we get nice flat packages....without the baking tray you just get odd shapes thats all!.0 -

I do a variation on this just lining the box with the freezer bag and pouring in the food
you can also use empty cardboard boxesI am a Senior Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Wales, Small Biz MoneySaving, In My Home (includes DIY) MoneySaving, and Old style MoneySaving boards. If you go to a chinese / indian cash n carry you can get the plastic type takeaway containers. They're very cheap, about £1.50 for 10 or £20 for 500  and can be frozen and microwaved! I've got about 30 of them and use them all the time.0

I've always used things like margarine and ice cream containers so have too many of them cluttering up the place. Can't believe I'd never thought of lining them first - with either a bag or clingfilm. Doh!0

I always use the left over containers from our chinese takeaway.

I agree with the plastic containers from the takeaway (altho I bought mine from The Range in packs of 6) They can be frozen, micro'd, DW'd and stack inside each other too.
Other than that, I use freezer bags. Sometimes I use a box or tray to keep them a certain shape, other times I push them in to whatever space is available - but you do get odd shapes0
