Me too, and I make sure I save the ones I get every time I (naughtily) go to the chinese. My cupboards are overflowing!

Tescos currently have a set of 5 boxes that stack inside each other - square with blue lids - the large one is a really good size - I did a shepherds pie in it and as they're all microwavable it was easy to defrost and bung straight in the MW to heat. (enough for 4 servings)
Current price is £2.46."Start every day off with a smile and get it over with" - W. C. Field.0 -
Thank you everyone,
I had the chinese takeaway boxes before i moved but had to be ruthless with what i kept. And now can't justify the take away! but the freezer bags and lining tubs is a fab!!! idea thank you. think i'll be doing this and then i can just buy a few boxes for stuff in the fridge .julybride

I make literally all my meals from scratch but just don't make any extra to freeze. Well today that is all changing. I got a lot of veg cheap on Saturday and a big big bag of potatoes for 19p!!! I am making a veggie shepherds pie for tea and aim to make at least another 2. Problem is I do not have any containers to put them in. Do any of you put them in a baking dish and then put this in the freezer? I know it will take up quite a bit of room but for today I don't know what else to use.
What about in the future? What containers should I buy. When I look at them in the shops they always seem funny shapes to me and not usually large enough (guess me and OH are just pigs). Also, I know it has been mentioned before but what's best for freezing potatoes? Do I boil and mash them or part boil in order to roast in future?
As usual, any hepl would be appreciated. The world is over 4 billion years old and yet you somehow managed to exist at the same time as David Bowie0 -
you can either boil and mash pots and freeze them, or par boil to roast in future, when i get bargain bags to pots i do half and half, for a bit of variety.
my best containers were from poundland, its a bit hit and miss what they have in, but i got two sets of three square ones that stack, and they are big enough for meals for me and dd, plus i have some smaller ones (bout 3" square) that i use for any bots of leftover veggies and that after meals. i quite often freeze crumbles pies etc in the baking dishes, never done any harm, and is much easier for reheating.

Hiya
Tesco's do a great range of cheapie plastic containers (starting from about 40p) which should be OK for meals that need to keep their 'shape' ie Shepherd's Pie, Lasagne. Also, look in your local pound shop for bargains esp the stackable kind of containers.
If I ever do too much chilli or curry or something else that's quite 'sloppy' I will just pop this staight into a small plastic bag which goes straight into the freezer. I did read (on here) of someone who put their plastic bags into a container so the food kind of froze into the right shape - but I've never been organised enough to do this0 -
Pound shop!!! I buy all my plastic containers from there and you get quite a few and can get large ones too. All for the princely sum of £1!!!!!!!Official DFW Nerd no. 082! :cool:Debt @ 01/01/2014 £16,956 Debt now: £0.00 :j

Hiya,
There are a few places to look for info on freezing. Try the [post=1642589]Comprehensive Freezer List[/post] in which Queenie has posted some great links. [post=1522652]Freezing Roast Potatoes[/post] is another good one as is [post=1391703]Best Freezing Containers on a Budget[/post] and [post=1237100]Vegs and Freezer[/post].

I put meals like sheps pie in the freezer in oven proof dishes than you can put them straight in the oven, just make sure they are reheated right the way through before you serve them, put a knife in the centre leave it for a few seconds and take it out, test it with your tongue, if it hot enough you will soon know!!!!! I bought a whole load of containers from Lakeland which stack on top of each other, I use them in the fridge, for larger portions you could use a 1 litre icecream container, I have aslo used the round containers that margarine comes in, you can stack them as well.
