Freezer bags are usually fine. If you're not sure if the cheap ones are strong enough, why not double wrap, using an ordinary carrier bag as the outer layer.
The ziplock-type bags are great for freezing food, especially things like spagbog sauce etc, because they make flat square packages that stack well, and also defrost very quickly. In fact you can speed up the process by running the cold tap over them.
The other thing I would suggest is collecting containers such as ice cream containers etc. If you don't buy them, why not see if someone else would recycle them in your direction!0 -

speaking of takeaway containers, the ones leftover from getting a chinese (depending on what kind they give you) are reuseable...
same goes for a lot of the plastic packaging other food comes in (should you be herectical enough to buy a microwave dinner)0 -
Hi mrs baggins,
We have a thread on freezer containers that should help you, so I'll merge your thread into it as it helps to keep all the suggestions together. As always posts are listed in date order, so you'll need to read from the beginning to see all the replies.

'fraid I've never bought a microwave dinner, but the plastic tubs from the chinese are brilliant.
They are also just the right size for storing things like pencils, too! (not that I freeze pencils, you understand!!!)0 -
Not really cheap, but I bought some pyrex containers ( oblong with a plastic lid) in 3 different sizes - from Woolworths when they had a sale. I think they might have been about £1.50 each and I have loads. They have lasted years and are brillant as they do for fridge storage, into the freezer, once defrosted ( still in the container ) can go in the oven , or into the microwave. They transport well, stack neatly full or emty, don't squash and don't stain with the tomato sauce which is one thing I freeze a lot of. I wouldn't use anything else.0

they used to do these bags in supermarkets too - were called "pour and store" .anyway, i love them, but they stopped doing them - but have recently found sainsbury's selling them again. one size only - 1 litre, made by poly-lina. pack of 8 for just under 2 quid - but i'll have to make a trip out to lakeland to buy the next lot - if i can control myself when i'm in there!
To defrost I just stand them in an ice cream container as they may get a bit unstable if not supported in the fridge. My weight loss following Doktor Dahlqvist' Dietary Program

We have a few diferent 'tupperware' type boxes, but they are bulky, unstackable and seem to take up far too much space in the freezers. I've noticed a few people have mentioned using zip lock bags, I was just wondering where I could get these, and how much they cost. Also, if anyone else has any other suggestions for space saving freezer storage, would be most appreciated.
Thanks

i just use cheap freezer bags, tightly tied, then i freeze them in side a tupperware tub to get a square shape, then lift them out and stack them up. i find using a coupole of same size tubs over and over keeps things neater. find it takes up much less room than tubs. do this with everthing from meals to stewed apple.
