  • If I've run out of suitable containers I've put the soup/stock/casserole/fruit in a plastic freezer bag stood in a bowl or square container. You can then, when it's frozen rescue the outer container and leave the bag of food in the freezer. You may need another bowl when it comes to defrosting but it saves having a load of containers.

We also recyle marg/yoghurt/icecream containers but these are always slightly different sizes and you may find freezer boxes more space saving.

You may also be interested in the Pour and Store bags that ALDI sell quite cheaply. These are zip fastening plastic bags that are shaped to stand up while you pour the liquid/fruit/casserole into then zip up and freeze. I quite like them as when they come out of the freezer to defrost they can stand in the fridge as you use the contents.

Me again - Small containers will stand upright in the freezer - don't forget to allow expansion room at the top of the bottle.

I put liquids in a freezer bag and then in a cup until frozen.

I like the pop bottle idea though.

We use takeaway tubs (the plastic ones from our local Indian) and soup pots from Morisson's when we've had their soups from the reduced rack. Both of those have the advantage that they're microwavable too! I think places like Wilkos et al do actually have soup styled containers available if you're stuck.

ETA something I've done with stock when I ran out of tubs was to put it into a tetrapak OJ carton! That will need to freeze upright though, but at least it uses them for something :) However, chunky soup probably wouldn't go in the hole!

The reason I ask is because i have loads of home grown veggies that need eating up so was going to cook a casserole/stew and freeze it to eat at a later time. But i dont have any decent tubs to store it all in. I have thought about using an ice cream tub but we still have ice cream in it! :rotfl:
Anyone got any good recommendations? Cheap ones please!!

Home Bargains aka Quality Save do different kinds of tubs that you can use for the fridge or freezer. The last ones I got from them were some plastic ones that have 5 in a pack for 59p. They are the kind of tubs that you get sometimes with Chinese takeaways.
They have other plastic ones an also those foil ones, not sure if you can reuse them.
